Anger over promises to cut the heavy railway line into Newcastle have ramped up in Maitland.
More than 200 protesters marched out of Maitland train station to Maitland MP Robyn Parker's electorate office yesterday, chanting "save our track to Newcastle".
There they presented a petition despite Master of science Parker being out of town on annual leave.
While Maitland Save Your Rail president Kim Cross punch said the group had been dynamic for a number of years, she believed the recent state government announcement that this rail line into Newcastle can be closed from Boxing Evening sparked the large rally participation yesterday.
The Greens requested the Independent Commission Towards Corruption to consider whether developers had influenced the united state's decision to truncate the line and allow development of the rail arena this week.
Maitland councillor Robert Aitchison said there should be no action on the rail range until after the ICAC investigated what sort of decision was made.
Cr Aitchison stated the truncation would affect Maitland people more than Newcastle residents, who would become more easily be able to find an alternative way into the city.
"The people associated with Maitland need the transport link,In . he said.
"As soon as you've got developer interests at stake, the folks of Maitland and the Upper Hunter are not going to benefit."
