    What is KCP?

KCP is a codec pack that contains the latest DirectShow components, utilized to decode an array of media types.
KCP was created with a focus Hi10P content playback and quality. Primarily, KCP exists as an alternative to following a Hi10P/codec setup guide. KCP serves as a tool which automates the process of installing the latest codecs and applying the settings needed for them to work harmoniously.

However, KCP goes beyond this scope by giving the end-user the choice of the following features/components:

    • A simple settings application that allows you to modify the configuration of all installed components

    • The ability to choose a configuration preset for madVR that best matches your PCs potential

    • (Optional) Ability to install ReClock

    • (Optional) Ability to alternatively use ReClock for Bit-Perfect Audio output

The components utilized in a default install of KCP result in higher image quality at a minimal cost in performance (YMMV based on your existing hardware).

What is exactly included in KCP?

    KCP utilizes the following components:
    MPC-HC - A robust DirectShow media player.
madVR - High quality gpu assisted video renderer. Included as an alternative to EVR-CP.
    xy-vsfilter / XySubFilter(future) - Superior subtitle renderer.
LAV-Filters - A package with the fastest and most actively developed DirectShow Media Splitter and Decoders.
(Optional) ReClock - Addresses the problem of audio judder by adapting media for smooth playback OR utilized for bit perfect audio.

    What are KCP's requirements?

The following is merely a suggestion. In reality, your results may vary depending on the hardware you own and the configuration you choose.

    Minimum requirements:

    Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1

As most of the DirectShow filters and included componenets are compiled with vs2010/2012, having the following is suggested:
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable Package (x86)

Most importantly, uninstall all previously used codec packs/players prior to installing KCP. (MPC-HC, CCCP, ffdshow, madVR, Haali, K-lite, CoreAVC etc.)
Conflicts with existing codecs may hinder your ability to play content effectively.

    How often is KCP updated?

Currently, stable and experimental builds are being released concurrently every month.
The experimental build differs from the stable build in that it requires madVR and utilizes the beta release of XySubFilter which may not work on PC's with limited hardware.
In the past, the experimental build was utilized for testing changes to the stable build.

    Advice/Tips

    • Uninstall old filters/codec packs before installing.

    • madVR will not be listed in the installer if your graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements for madVR and/or there is an issue with DirectX on your machine

    • During playback, press Ctrl+J to bring up the madVR OSD. Pay attention to Dropped/Delayed frames. Obviously, you want these as low as possible (remember that starting a video will usually cause a few dropped/delayed frames). If frames are being dropped/delayed every few seconds, drop down to a different tier setting in the installer/settings application. Ctrl-R will reset Delayed/Dropped frames to 0.

    • The installer gives you the option of enabling hardware acceleration in LAV-Video. It has been observed that enabling hardware acceleration may cause issues for some individuals. Feel free to experiment.

    • Smooth motion is an optional feature in madVR that significantly enhances video quality. In order to use this feature, ensure that hardware acceleration is off in LAV-Video. The use of hardware acceleration has been reported to cause excessive dropped frames.

    • Remember that the video also affects the rendering speed. Test out some grain intensive or high-bitrate videos. If you can play those back just fine, you'll be good for just about everything. OPs/EDs are generally good for this since they can be the most rendering intensive parts of a show, and can easily be used as a test over-and-over again to see different results.

    • ReClock is included for advanced users to install and tweak, it is cpu intensive.

    Known Issues + Bugs

    • Certain versions of Logitech Gaming Software are crashing MPC-HC and various other applications. Issue has been reproduced. It is suggested to use the LATEST version of Logitech Gaming Software.
      Reference - http://goo.gl/FmibP6

    • Visual Novels or Video Games (such as Fallout 3/GTA) are having issues playing sound/video.

      Description of issue -
Windows includes many DirectShow filters by default. When KCP registers LAV on your system, LAV takes higher priority than these filters. Many software developers design their software to utilize the default codecs/filters and incompatibles occur when using LAV filters.

      How to fix -
First you need to identify which component in LAV is causing your issues. I'm sorry I can't be entirely specific on this, google whatever issue/error you receive. Most likely someone else has the same issue as you.
LAV has three filters (Video, Audio, Splitter). You need to bring up the settings window for the problematic filter. This can be done easily from the KCP settings window: http://goo.gl/C3uBdc

As an example lets assume the problematic software is Fallout 3. A previous KCP user identified that LAV's mp3 splitter was hindering his game from loading.
So he opened the LAV-Splitter properties window and unchecked the mp3 format in the "Input Formats" menu. This menu also exists for LAV-Audio and LAV-Video. Picture: http://goo.gl/cf5xad
That's it, problem solved. If you can not identify the offending format listed in "Input Formats", post in this thread for help.

    Reference

    madVR scaling algorithms:
The following settings have been approved by madshi (creator of madVR).
The settings corresponding to "Low Tier" correlate to what madshi configures in a default madVR install.
During KCP installation, the Mid-tier option is selected as the default option unless the user specifies another tier.
None of these tiers have yet to be associated with any hardware specs officially. User feedback is greatly appreciated as always.

Random irrelevant, ramblings in a very informal tone by seidweise:

    About the pack:
If you are bored and care to read this, it's coded by me, seidweise, hi.
It uses inno setup to install components, I chose inno because its pretty straightforward and easy to customize.
Application of the settings are done with embedded code written in VC++ in vs2010.
The settings app is a simple C++ app (C# as of recently) using .NET framework components to make it super easy to maintain.
The pack is based off nand's and Swaps4's original Hi10P guide found on this site with the addition of xy-vsfilter and the madVR presets.

How long did it take to make the pack?
I made about 50% of this pack in under a day (and made it do everything that nand's/Swaps4's guide did).
The other 50% was settings optimizations that the awesome people in this thread suggested and were included over time.
The settings app took ~8 hours to code because I was really indecisive on how to organize everything properly.

Why did you make the pack?
A year ago when Swaps4/nand made the first Hi10P guide, Swaps4 kept insisting to me that I make it automated. I shrugged off the idea and was like why should there be? Its pretty easy to follow the guide. But people on the internet are inherently lazy, including myself. Tools are made for a reason, to make life easier. After coding a few apps for myself to take care of little tasks I caved and said it worth the effort.

My current opinion: If you want to do it all manually, all the power to you. Follow a Hi10P guide to help you along the way. (What I find most amusing is that all the Hi10P guides says the same thing, yet people insist on arguing over which is superior, ily internet.) Hopefully you learn from the experience and get an idea of how all this shit works (and maybe come here and give suggestions or your opinion). Otherwise, if you don't give a shit then I find following the guide a wasted effort.

    My current goals:
Give something back to the anime community.
    Make life easier for encoders.
    Improve my own coding knowledge.
Make a pack that works great on modern PCs and make it configurable for the advanced user.

Heya folks. Thanks for the useful tool, I'll include that in my guide as well.

For now, I have some suggestions and I believe I found a bug.

    Suggestions:

    1. Make LAV Splitter installation optional. There are some useful things that it can do better than Haali (like DTS handling).
    2. Use a stable version of MPC-HC. I know, I know, being on edge is always cool, but the versions available at xhmikosr.1f0.de/mpc-hc/ are still beta after all, so this is just a heads up.

    The bug:

For some reason, I can't get to use Haali Media Splitter. It doesn't matter if it's set to prefer or not in the "External Filters", MPC-HC will use it's internal splitter.

PS: If it helps, I used a .reg with my own settings for MPC-HC, but I don't believe that's the cause.

Advanced MPC-HC Setup Guide (v1.2) - with LAV filters + madVR configuration | madVR scaling algorithms chart - based on performance x quality
Specs, KCP version and a detailed report of the issue you're dealing with is necessary when asking for support. Anything not relevant to KCP will be ignored.

Its installed with LAV but the component is not registered (and made not usable on purpose).
I will add in the option to choose between LAV or Haali

If you can upload your .reg config with LAV splitter working for me to look at.

I know the risks of beta builds, maybe I can give the option to choose to install the beta build.
The whole purpose of this beta is to get an idea of what installation options people want to see. (I'm trying to cater to both basic and advanced users)

In regards to the bug, its using MPC internal on my fresh win8 install. Investigating whats wrong atm.
EDIT: missing a few reg entries adding them into the installer thx for the help
