According to one of the most famous anime retailing store, Animate Japan, the 46th compiled limited edition volume of Yuuji Terajima’s (Giant Step) Diamond no Ace will include an original video animation. The story of the OVA was not taken place in the manga, and thus an original. No synopsis have been added yet. However, the popular characters of the anime will still be gathered. The limited edition set will be released on March 17, 2015.
This will be the third original video animation of the series. The first OVA was released as a bundle of the 44th compiled limited edition manga volume on November 17, 2014. It was titled as Kominato Ryousuke Special Bangai-hen: Face and it appeared in the Diamond no Ace: Guide Book – Ura as a one-shot. The one-shot was published on May 14, 2014 as chapter 327.1. It tells about the moving secret story of the Kominato brothers that wasn’t seen in the TV series.
The second OVA will be released along with the limited edition 45th compiled manga volume of the series on January 16, 2015. It will be titled as Kuramochi Youichi’s Special Bangai-hen: OutRun. Just like the first OVA, this is an adaptation of a one-shot that is included in the Diamond no Ace: guide Book – Ura. It was published earlier, which was on March 17, 2014 as chapter 319.1. The OVA will show Kuramochi Youichi’s past.
The manga, Diamond no Ace, was published by Kodansha and was serialized by Weekly Shounen Magazine since 2006. There are currently 44 compiled manga volumes. An anime adaptation was premiered on October 6, 2013 and is still airing. It was announced that it will end on March 2015. The anime was produced by a collaboration of Madhouse (Hajime no Ippo, Chihayafuru) and Production I.G (Kuroko no Basuke, Haikyuu!!). It was directed by Masuhasa Mitsuyuki (Blade, Kobato.). The series has currently six DVD volumes and the seventh volume will be released on December 17, 2014 which will cover episode 25-28. There are also five released CDs and the fifth CD was released on December 3, 2014, containing character songs of Kominato Ryosuke and Kuramochi Youichi.
Diamond no Ace has also received a stage play adaptation and will be performed on January 23 – 31, 2015. The play will be set at Kinokuniya Southern Theater, Tokyo, Japan. It will be directed by Shintarou Asanuma.
Synopsis of Diamond no Ace from Haruhichan:
The story follows Eijun Sawamura, a pitcher who joins an elite school with a brilliant catcher named Kazuya Miyuki. Together with the rest of the team, they strive for Japan’s storied Koushien championships through hard work and determination.
