Kyoto Animation has just revealed via their website and their official Youtube page that a movie version of Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! will be out on September 14th this year, showing across 27 different theatres around Japan. They have released a new image and a promotional video for the new announcement, both of which are found through their official website over at http://www.anime-chu-2.com/
A brief screenshot of the website is shown above that shows a portion of the image below, which features Rikka Takanashi, one of the main protagonists of the show, surrounded by various objects from the show.
Here is the first promotional video for the film release of Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!:
From the looks of the trailer and the image, the film appears to be a re-release of the anime that aired in the Winter period last year. So there won’t be a full Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! movie with brand new footage but rather a movie experience of the original anime. It hasn’t been fully revealed if the movie itself will fully cover the 12 episode anime, or that there will be multiple movie parts. The latter is more likely to happen. Of course there won’t be a brand new movie anytime soon since the second season was officially confirmed earlier last month.
Additionally, tickets are available for advanced purchase from the 15th and each purchase will come with a clear file folder. You can obtain one of 4 designs that feature the four main female characters (Rikka Takanashi, Sanae Dekomori, Shinka Nibutani and Kumin Tsuyuri) in their swimsuit attire. The designs are done by the character designer of the TV anime Kazumi Ikeda. The folders are only available for a limited time.
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! is an anime adaptation of the light novel series of the same name by Kyoto Animation. The novels entered the Kyoto Animation Awards in 2010 and received an honourable mention award. The light novel was eventually published by Kyoto Animation in June 2011 and the anime aired just last season. The anime received rather high sales and TV ratings prompting more demand for the anime series and light novel series. Here is a brief sypnosis of the anime from MyAnimeList:
Yuuta Togashi suffered from chuunibyou while he was in middle school. When he graduated, he put that dark history behind him and forgot about it… or he was supposed to. High school was smooth sailing and full of enjoyment—until the unavoidable, sad event occurs. The event that locks Yuuta into a contract with Rikka Takanashi and disrupts his desperately ordinary life.
The second season still has no confirmed date. The theatre version will be out on September 14th this year so if your in Japan, you know what to see next.
