Tottori Airport in the city of Tottori has been renamed to “Tottori Conan Airport” in tribute to Gosho Aoyama, the creator of the popular police / mystery manga series Detective Conan.
Gosho Aoyama’s birth place was in Hokuei, Tottori Prefecture, which also is home to the manga museum Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory that opened on March 18th, 2007 which was dedicated to him for his ongoing dedication year works of Detective Conan.
The airport management is planning to display Detective Conan images throughout the airport. Several Conan flags have already been set up outside the airport in celebration of the name change. The name change was intended to attract tourists, but some locals are not optimistic about the change. Locals have explained that homicides tend to happen when Conan is about in the series, so “Conan” can mean “Unlucky”.
