The idea of a Pikachu bento box may seem cute in concept, and a simple pork cutlet shaped like Japan’s favorite rat Pokemon would be a must-have for any bento artist. However, an online Korean market recently began selling Pikachu themed cutlets, and the results have been more questionable than cute. Available for 9000 won (US$8.20) on Gmarket, many Japanese food stalls have adopted them for tourists and residents to snack on on their way home from work or just walking around town.
Unfortunately, these snacks look more like an actual fried Pikachu than something themed on the concept of one.
Below is a tweet from Korean pop band Super Junior’s member, Shindong, eating a Pikachu cutlet. While these themed snacks have been around for many years, fans and food venders are lucky enough to have the convenience of online ordering now. Would you eat a Pikachu cutlet, or would you rather stick with the traditional shape?
