The Japanese channel BS11 recently aired a commercial for the upcoming anime adaptation for Marvelous AQL’s Bakumatsu Rock game. Bakumatsu Rock will premiere on Tokyo MX on July 2, it will then run on BS11 from July 10.
The story of Bakumatsu Rock is set in the Bakumatsu era, in the middle of the 19th century at the end of the Shogun’s rule over Japan. The Tokugawa shogunate subjugates the country and its people by brainwashing them with “Heaven’s Songs” by the top idols. In the Bakumatsu Rock alternate Japan, writing or singing any songs besides the “Heaven’s Songs” is a capital offense. Ryoma Sakamato and other rockers rise up and change the world with rock ‘n’ roll.
Ryōma: Oh, you there, you there! I am Ryōma Sakamoto! I wanted to play rock, therefore I came to Kyoto, but a group called the Shinsengumi that sing the “Heaven’s Songs” are throwing their weight around! In addition, if one sings any song other than the Heaven’s Songs, it is a capital offense! Then I must not play rock!? Music is free! That kind of rule is preposterous! If this is the case, I shall change the world with my rock! Bakumatsu Rock is starting from the time you see here!
Kishô Taniyama as Ryōma Sakamoto
Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Shinsaku Takasugi
