Culture Select is a new localization startup company based in Delaware, USA. Culture Select‘s CEO, John Baumlin, has worked on visual novels such as Fault -Milestone One-, An Octave Higher, and Ecchi Mery and the Perils of the Cosmic Shrine alongside companies such as MangaGamer and Active Gaming Media. Their newest project brings us Wish -tale of the sixteenth night of lunar month. Wish is a type-moon inspired visual novel created by the Migiha, a group of doujinshi artists who have sold their games and doujins at Comiket, the biggest annual comic convention in Japan. For fans of Fate/Stay Night, Tsukihime, and Kara No Kyoukai, the Wish visual novel is sure to be enjoyed.
As a result of the large Western anime following, fans in English-speaking countries also want to experience the thrill of reading and playing through visual novels. That’s where localizing start up companies come in. Companies such as Sekai Project have translated many visual novels based solely on Kickstarter funds. One of such is the iconic Clannad, set to release in English on steam in Fall 2015 with $541,161 pledged from fans.
The plot of Wish along with the main characters are described on the Kickstarter page.
Have you ever wondered what lies beyond a dream?
Tenka Kurono is an adopted son of the Kurono family, who has been managing the Kuromiya Shrine for several generations. His older sister Mutsuki and upperclassman Rinna are runemasters – prana users who have been defending the land of commoners since ancient times. Ever since Mutsuki and Tenka’s father left without a trace, Mutsuki has been entrusted with the shrine – including taking on the odd request to defeat monsters. Keeping watch over the family is An’ya, the supernatural deity enshrined in the holy vessel within the Kuromiya Shrine.
Prana, a kind of finite life energy that can be used to activate supernatural magic…Tenka is infatuated with the powers of runemasters and trains in secret, longing to stand side-by-side with Mutsuki and Rinna. Despite his greatest desires though, Tenka himself is quite ordinary, and his prana reserves rival that of an insect.
How can he be of any use to anyone around him in this supernatural universe that exists beyond him? He gets his first chance after hearing a mysterious voice call out to him…
Culture Select‘s current goal for the project is set for $4,800, with pledges already reaching $1,107 as of July 13th, with the Kickstarter ending on August 7th. There is currently a Steam Greenlight page open for voting for the visual novel as well.
