Akagi Is Ready for the Admiral in New Scale Figure

1

With convention season in full blast for the summer, FunnyKnights have put up their Akagi 1/7 Complete Figure up for pre-ordering this weekend to be distributed by A. After the figures original prototype release pictures during Wonder Festival, finally the final product is painted and ready to hit Akihabara stores and orders online.

The scale figure features Akagi, one of the main characters of Kancolle, the anime adaption of the popular Japanese browser game Kantai Collection. The stunning paint job done by Funnyknights makes the skirt and shirt combo that the carrier class ship wears look almost like they are made of real cloth. From the official images of the figure, Akagi’s bow could potentially be made of real string, but considering the detail, the figure is made to look as three dimensional as possible. Akagi is also made to match her partner, Kaga, with her figure by Funnyknights to be released in August.

Kantai Collection‘s Akagi 1/7 Complete figure is to be released in September of this year and is currently available for preorder on Amiami for 7,930 yen.

Shinobu Oshino Receives Figure Based on Kizumonogatari Key Visual

6

From the popular SHAFT anime series Monogatari Series, comes this new figure of the donut loving vampire Shinobu Oshino. The figure is based on one of the key visuals from the Kizumonogatari anime, featuring Kiss-shot (Shinobu’s true form) crouched down on her knees in a pose that faithfully preserves the feeling of the original illustration and shows off her lady-like curves as well as the strong determination in her eyes.

The areas that were never visible in the original illustration such as the back of her hair have been very intricately sculpted, and the detailed base she sits upon has been made to look like the surface of water to bring out the atmosphere of the series even more.

Korean Pikachu Cutlets Aren’t as Cute as Fans Would Imagine

7

The idea of a Pikachu bento box may seem cute in concept, and a simple pork cutlet shaped like Japan’s favorite rat Pokemon would be a must-have for any bento artist. However, an online Korean market recently began selling Pikachu themed cutlets, and the results have been more questionable than cute. Available for 9000 won (US$8.20) on Gmarket, many Japanese food stalls have adopted them for tourists and residents to snack on on their way home from work or just walking around town.

Korean Pikachu Cutlets Arent as Cute as Fans Would Imagine 3 Korean Pikachu Cutlets Arent as Cute as Fans Would Imagine

Unfortunately, these snacks look more like an actual fried Pikachu than something themed on the concept of one.

Below is a tweet from Korean pop band Super Junior’s member, Shindong, eating a Pikachu cutlet. While these themed snacks have been around for many years, fans and food venders are lucky enough to have the convenience of online ordering now. Would you eat a Pikachu cutlet, or would you rather stick with the traditional shape?

Here is XSEED’s official statement from the game’s PS3 and Vita release:

In AKIBA’S TRIP: Undead & Undressed, players work to repel a brooding malevolence that has suffused Tokyo’s popular electronics district, Akihabara (Akiba for short), which has been painstakingly remodeled in the game to resemble its real life counterpart. Akiba has been invaded by creatures known as “Synthisters” who prey on the otaku patrons of Akihabara like vampires, but feast on their will to live and energy to socialize rather than their blood. Only direct exposure to sunlight can destroy the Synthisters, and it’s up to players to ensure that that’s just what they get. If only it weren’t for those pesky clothes protecting them from the sun’s harmful rays…

That’s where players come in. It’s their task to roam this sanctuary of anime and gaming fanatics, identify the outwardly human Synthisters with the help of a handy smartphone app, and then beat and pull at them until they’ve been relieved of their clothes, exposing them to sunlight and sending them to the netherworld. Everyday objects from baseball bats to comic books to motherboards can be used as weapons, and players can take their enemies’ unique clothing for their own personal use as well.

AKIBA’S TRIP: Undead & Undressed tells the story of a young man named Nanashi who was lured into a trap and transformed into one of the walking undead. Lucky enough to be spared the worst of his fate by the kiss of a mysterious Synthister hunter named Shizuku, Nanashi is sworn to rid Akihabara of the Synthister threat. Together with the rest of his companions in an organization unofficially dubbed the “Akiba Freedom Fighters,” Nanashi and Shizuku must uncover the truth behind the Synthister plague and save Akiba from being overrun by their kind.

The first Akiba’s Trip released on the PlayStation Portable on May 19th 2011 in Japan, with an updated version titled Akiba’s Trip PLUS releasing in June 2012. The game is developed and published by Acquire. The game is set in a recreated setting of Akihabara, with many shops and stores being identical with the real district. The game is an action adventure game where players must strip vampire-like enemies so their skin is revealed to the sunlight. The player can also romance various female characters. Akiba’s Trip 2 released on the PS3 and Vita in Japan in November 2013. An international release of the second game was produced in late 2014 under Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed. It was published by XSEED games in North America and by NIS America in Europe.

Young Black Jack Anime Visual Revealed and Slated for This Fall

3

On the eighth compiled book volume of Yuugo Okuma and Yoshiaki Tabata’s Young Black Jack manga a wraparound jacket band revealed that the manga’s TV anime adaptation will premiere on the TBS and BS-TBS broadcast networks this fall. In addition to this, a website was also launched and the first visual was revealed.

Yuugo Okuma and Yoshiaki Tabata's Young Black Jack manga anime announced

Anime visual:

Young Black Jack Anime Visual

The first televised appearance of Black Jack was in the 1980 remake of Tetsuwan Atom. Episode 27 of Astro Boy brought together three separate Tezuka creations, as Astro, Uran, Doctor Roget (Black Jack) and Penny (Pinoko) travel back through time to 15th Century Molavia (Silverland). In this storyline, Black Jack performs a life-saving operation on a critically injured Princess Sapphire (from Ribbon no Kishi), while Astro and Uran fend off Gor, a malevolent magician bent on usurping the throne. Characteristically, Roget/Black Jack refuses to operate until he is offered the key to the treasury vault, but later takes only one commemorative coin from the grateful court (which turns out to be worth $200,000,000 when he returns to Astro’s time).

Black Jack also made a cameo appearance in the theatrical film Phoenix 2772 as an interstellar prison warden, and is one of the main characters of the TV movie One Million-Year Trip: Bandar Book, in which he plays the role of a space pirate, somehow similar in concept to Leiji Matsumoto’s Captain Harlock.

In 1992, Tezuka’s protege Osamu Dezaki did the direction for a theatrical film and an OVA series. Ten OVAs were made (six of which, along with the film, were originally only available in dub-only VHS form in North America, but all 10 OVAs have since been released on bilingual Region 1 DVD). Wizard selected the series as their “Anime Pick of the Month” for August 1997, calling it “one of the darkest and hardest-hitting made-for-video series of recent years.”

Young Black Jack synopsis from Haruhichan:

Based on the brilliant maverick doctor created by manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka. This prequel follows Black Jack when he was still a medical student in the 1960s.
