The film also revealed the release date for the second compilation film, Attack on Titan Part II: Wings of Freedom (Shingeki no Kyojin Kouhen ~Jiyuu no Tsubasa~) which will be out in Japanese theatres on June 27th next year.

The Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) series was created by Hajime Isayama. It started off as a manga in 2009 and is published in Kodansha’s monthly Bessatsu Shounen Magazine. To date there has been 14 compiled volumes of the manga. A prequel light novel adaptation started in 2011, and two spin-off manga started serialization in 2012: Shingeki no Kyojin: Before the Fall and Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou. In April 2013 the series was picked up for an anime adaptation. The anime series was produced by the newly formed Wit Studios. The series has grown in popularity since the anime’s debut, with the manga selling over 36 million copies as of April this year. Two live action film adaptations will be releasing in Japan next year. The first images for the live-action 2015 Attack on Titan film were also earlier released.

Here is a synopsis of the anime from Haruhichan:

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by titans. Titans are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of titans.

Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a titan in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a colossal titan that appears out of thin air. As the smaller titans flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Eren vows that he will murder every single titan and take revenge for all of mankind.

Live-Action Attack on Titan Cast Reveals Armin Isn’t Blonde and Hanji Has a RPG

Japanese film news websites Eiga and Sanspo have revealed the 13 character poster visuals for the upcoming live-action Attack on Titan films. Attack on Titan creator, Hajime Isayama, helped in the creation of the movie and even came up with the seven additional characters.

Sanspo reports that Hiroki Hasegawa’s character Shikishima holds the key to the film’s story as “humanity’s strongest man.”

The reason why Armin isn’t blonde and Hanji has an RPG is because producer Yoshihiro Sato said he did not pay as much attention to whether or not the cast members looked like the original characters. Instead, he had many discussions with Attack on Titan manga creator Hajime Isayama and went with actors who could act out the “characters’ spirits.”

The films’ director Shinji Higuchi confirmed that the project will have two films and stated that, with the supervision of Hajime Isayama, the story will be based on the world and characters of the manga, while incorporating new characters and new formidable enemies. Yuusuke Watanabe (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, live-action Gantz, Gantz II: Perfect Answer, 20th Century Boys, Gatchaman) is writing the script. Film critic Tomohiro Machiyama, who is also friends with Hajime Isayama, is working on the scripts together with Hajime Isayama and Yusuke Watanabe.

Attack on Titan live-action synopsis from asianwiki

Some time ago, the asteroid Kumaria exploded in the depths of space.

In “Man vs. Bear,” the bears ate the humans and the humans shot the bears, resulting in a seemingly unending battle and a cycle of hatred. In the end, a giant “Wall of Extinction” was erected between the humans and bears and a state of mutual nonaggression came to pass…

The human world.

One morning, Arashigaoka Academy students Kureha Tsubaki and Sumika Izumino were by themselves and saw the “Yuri Flower” that bloomed in a flower bed. The two are friends as well as lovers. The flower bed is an important place to the two. At that moment, the Bear Alarms ring out! The bears are invading the human world, and humans are being attacked! Are they really those bears? One mystery invokes yet another mystery, one after another. The curtain rises magnificently on Yuri Kuma Arashi!
