Gundam is one of Japan’s largest and most iconic franchise. The franchise is mostly set in a science fiction future that focuses on giant mechanical robots. The franchise was created by Hajime Yatate, a group of animators from the studio Sunrise, lead by Yoshiyuki Tomino. It began in 1979 with the release of the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam, though while the anime itself did not receive high praise and viewings, the eventual gunpla models from Bandai launched the series into popularity. Since then, there has been a plethora of anime series, OVAs, films, manga, light novels, games and merchandise based on the franchise. It has become an iconic symbol of Japanese pop culture where Bandai made over 50 billion yen per fiscal year on the models alone. The franchise hit its 35th anniversary on April 7th this year.

Gundam: G no Reconguista will be airing this October, during the Fall/Autumn 2014 anime season. Further information on the anime will release soon.

Terra Formars Anime Release Date Announced

0

Earlier this month the release date for popular sci-fi seinen manga Terra Formars was announced to the public. Mark your calendars if you’re a fan of the genre because the thriller is scheduled to air on the 26th of September, making it one of the later additions to the Fall season’s lineup. The teaser trailer can be viewed below while a more action packed trailer for its OVA can be seen here!

For those who don’t know, Terra Formars is a manga written by Yū Sasuga and illustrated by Kenichi Tachibana that faced wide critical acclaim. Without giving away too much, the story involves humans attempting to colonize Mars – making it livable for humans. The first call of order is of course warming the environment up and thus humans send mold and cockroaches to begin a stabilization process through an extremely rudimentary and basic ecosystem.

Of course, things go awry and when a crew is sent to check on progress they are killed by what seem to be mutated cockroaches. This leads to a second group being sent – a group of combat proficient fighters who are tasked with eradicating the threat. Thus begins our gritty, dark, insect-infested adventure.

If you enjoy mature sci-fi anime, liked the Alien series or just want to see cockroaches being killed without having to watch your dad do it with a newspaper, Terra Formars is one to watch! More information as well as updates can be found on the official website.

Studio Ghibli Not Shutting Down

10

Studio Ghibli Logo

こんにちはみんなさん! (Hello everyone!)

Studio Ghibli’s announcement a couple of days ago had everyone on edge as multiple news sites had reported that the legendary animation studio was shutting down. We learned later that this was not the case; there was a mistranslation and Toshio Suzuki’s words were taken the wrong way. Studio Ghibli is simply taking a break from making animated films for a while. Studio Ghibli is rearranging its internal structure of animators and artists. A lot of layoffs had occurred recently, starting in March, so many assumed this was the beginning of the end for Studio Ghibli. Foreign news sites caught onto this news alongside the mistranslated words, which is what really caused a panic amongst fans.

Spirited Away Studio Ghibli Masterpiece
Spirited Away, often considered Studio Ghibli’s best movie and an animated masterpiece.

However, if Studio Ghibli were to ever disband, it would indeed be a sad day for the world of animation. Studio Ghibli has brought us some of anime’s most powerful movies like My Neighbour Totoro, Princess Mononoke, and of course, Spirited Away. This isn’t the first time Studio Ghibli has messed with our feelings though. Spirited Away was supposed to be Hayao Miyazaki’s last movie as well but, he returned to Studio Ghibli to continue making movies. There are statements from internal Studio Ghibli staff that despite Hayao Miyazaki saying Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Rises) was going to be his last movie, Hayao Miyazaki has been seen regularly inside Studio Ghibli. There are rumours he had even helped out on Omoide no Marnia, Studio Ghibli’s latest movie. It is entirely possible Hayao Miyazaki simply stated he was going to retire in order to grab attention for The Wind Rises. If that is the case, it had the desired effect on the Western world. Despite this, Omoide no Marnia and The Tale of Princess Kaguya did not do well in sales, so they may be the reasons why Studio Ghibli is restructuring the company.

Even though Studio Ghibli may be temporarily halting production, their TV anime collaboration with Polygon Pictures seems to still be scheduled and ready for the 2014 Fall season. Sanzoku no Susume Ronja is being directed by Goro Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. You can find out more about Studio Ghibli’s first TV anime here.

All 707 Images found for Haruhi Hunting

1

As of today, August 5th 2014, the total of 707 images have been found for the Haruhi Hunting campaign. And also, the Haruhi Pachinko machine has officially released in Japan.

Haruhi-Hunting-707-Images-Found

Despite all 707 images being found, there has been a questionable method of getting the last image, namely it being forged. There has been recent discussions on image boards, such as 4chan’s /a/, on forging the last image to find out the reward of obtaining all 707 images. Through finding out the pattern of QR codes, the final image, 356, was found:

But nonetheless, all the images have been collected and put together frame by frame into a music video featuring the song Lost my Music. Here is the full video:

The Haruhi Pachinko machine from Sankyo has finally released in Japan and is available in over 46 locations across the country. Here is a video of the pachinko in action, which features new lines from Aya Hirano as Haruhi:

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is a light novel series written by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated by Noizi Ito. The novels began in 2003 and were originally published as short stories in Kadokawa Shoten’s The Sneaker magazine. Since then the short stories have been compiled into 11 light novel volumes, with the latest releasing in May 2011 (which was translated in November 2013). There has been many manga based on the series since its release. An anime adaptation from Kyoto Animation aired in 2006 and in 2009. The series was followed by the animated film The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya in early 2010. In conjunction with the anime series, two online mini-series were also released: Nyoron Churuya-san and The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya. In December last year it was announced that an anime adaptation of The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan is currently in production.

While it may appear that the campaign is over, nothing has come of it yet. So stay tuned for any other development on the campaign’s website: http://www.haruhi.com/

Figure Review: Flandre Scarlet and Remilia Scarlet – Touhou Project

0

Figurine collectors get your wallets ready because the team over at E2046 have unveiled their adorably crafted figurine of Flandre and Remilia Scarlet from the Touhou Project.

Touhou Project is an arcade style bullet hell shooter that is developed by a one-man team known as Team Shanghai Alice.

Some information about these two adorable vampires:

Remilia Scarlet is a vampire with incredibly strong magical capability. She appears to be of European origin, all indicated by her appearance and clothing in-game and claims to be a descendant of Count Vlad Tepes or as best known as Dracula. She’s incredibly self-centered and tends to be childlike. Alike all other vampires, Remilia is weakened by sunlight and carries a parasol during the day to be able to freely move around.

Flandre Scarlet is a vampire with incredible physical strength. She is the younger sister of Remilia Scarlet. Due to her bipolar personality and destructive capability, she’s ordered by Remilia to stay in the Scarlet Devil Mansion. She has stayed in their mansion for nearly 500 years and knows little to nothing about the outside world.

It’s difficult to say anything negative about this figurine. At first, it seems a little plain due to white being the main color but it radiates a sense of innocence and playfulness because of it. This pose also exudes a sense of playfulness because the older sibling embraces the playful younger sibling with open and seemingly caring arms. Ironically, for sexualized demon shrine girls, a strong sense of innocence is portrayed here.

From this point of view, we’re able to fully appreciate what this figurine has to offer. From the beautifully delicate looking dresses to the old decaying tree, all of these fine details come together to present something that nabs your attention and will not let go.

Unfortunately, there isn’t much to say from this point of view. Although not much is happening from the backside of Remilia, it should be noted that the team over at E2046 didn’t slack on any of the detailing from any angle. Also, Remilia’s little bat wings are extremely cute.

These cute sisters are currently available for pre-order. Why not take advantage of the current offer and purchase these vampires today?

Personal remark:

I usually try to exclude personal opinions but I cannot with this figurine. I find this to be my personal favorite of the E2046 works. Despite my little knowledge of the Touhou Project, I find this figurine to be absolutely stunning. I was speechless at first but after staring a bit, I managed to formulate some thoughts. I love everything about this figurine, from the composition to detailing, all of it left me impressed. The usage of white is somewhat difficult; it’s a rather dull color but when applied properly, it becomes a focal point, grabbing attention. In this case, it grabs your attention and exudes an aura. The old looking tree assists the overall presentation due to it showing the contrast between the girls and itself — simply, it makes the dresses and the girls pop out.

Shingeki no Kyojin Season 2 Confirmed

18

At yesterday’s Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) Q&A panel at Germany’s Animagic 2014, George Wada, the president of Wit Studio, has revealed that the second season of Attack on Titan is currently in pre-production. Wada did not reveal further information about the upcoming season.

Attack-on-Titan-Animagic 2014 Q&A

Wada also gave a quick overview into the production of the first anime season. Additionally, he said that he wanted to adapt Hajime Isayama’s manga into an anime after reading the second manga. He also stated that they were inspired by Spider-Man and Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. The first episode took 6 months to complete and every following episode took 6 weeks. The anime itself featured inspirations from Germany, though they had to refer to images since the team was not able to travel to the country due to the limited budget.

The Shingeki no Kyojin series was created by Hajime Isayama. It started off as a manga in 2009 and is published in Kodansha’s monthly Bessatsu Shounen Magazine. To date there has been 13 compiled volumes of the manga. A prequel light novel adaptation started in 2011, and two spin-off manga started serialization in 2012: Shingeki no Kyojin: Before the Fall and Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou. In April 2013 the series was picked up for an anime adaptation. The anime series was produced by the newly formed Wit Studios. The series has grown in popularity since the anime’s debut, with the manga selling over 36 million copies as of April this year.

Here is a synopsis of the anime from Haruhichan:

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by titans. Titans are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of titans.

Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a titan in over 100 years. Teenage boy Eren and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a colossal titan that appears out of thin air. As the smaller titans flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Eren vows that he will murder every single titan and take revenge for all of mankind.
