Goku Cosplayer Takes Flying Nimbus to the Streets

1

Goku Cosplayer Flys Nimbus in Taipei

In Taipei a vicarious Goku cosplayer took his flying nimbus out for a ride. Casually avoiding traffic and high-fiving kids along the way. It was definitely a sight to see the super saiyan entertain and bring joy to so many kids. Youtuber YEKON1 constructed the nimbus cloud using an electric board and covering it in fluffy yellow and white stuffing, making it the perfect cloud. Watch the video to the very end to see Goku use his kamehameha!

The crew was inspired by a previous take on a similar concept. PrankvsPrank’s Jesse rode through the streets of New York City on a magic carpet made using an electric skateboard.

A previous Goku cosplayer was spotted flying around Dragon Con in Atlanta last year.

Author of InuYasha and Ranma 1/2 Nominated for Eisner Awards Hall of Fame

2

Rumiko Takahashi

The Eisner Awards are considered to be one of the most prestigious achievements granted to mangakas, akin to the Oscars. It is an incredible honor to receive such an award, and what better an author to nominate than the one that has captivated us since the beginning, Rumiko Takahashi. With her fabled works of InuYasha and Ranma 1/2 as well as other very successful manga, she has been nominated for this year’s Eisner Awards Hall of Fame, and it comes well deserved.

Rumiko Takahashi Nominated for Eisner Hall of Fame 2

Takahashi is best known for her classic manga works such as Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, InuYasha, and Maison Ikkoku. Her latest serialized work, Rin-Ne, is slated to get its second anime adaptation this year.

Rumiko Takahashi Nominated for Eisner Hall of Fame 3

However, this award is all but won. Takahashi is up against some steep compition, with 13 others also having been nominated. The nominees, including Takahashi, are: Lynda Barry, Kim Deitch, Rube Goldberg, Edward Gorey, Bill Griffith, Matt Groening, Jack Kamen, Francoise Mouly, George Perez, Antonio Prohias, P. Craig Russell, Rumiko Takahashi, Jacques Tardi, and Herb Trimpe. Carl Burgos and Tove Jansson are going to be automatically inducted into the Hall of Fame, while 14 nominees will have to endure the anxiety-provoking process of a voting period, where industry professionals will vote for which comic legends deserve to be inducted this year. Only four will be chosen, and the winners will be revealed during the San Diego Comic-Con on July 22, 2016.

Takahashi has been nominated previously in 2014 for the Hall of Fame. If she wins, she will jion comic book giants like Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Batman creator, Bob Kane, and Japanese manga extraordinaire, Osamu Tezuka.

The Comedic Anime, Osomatsu-san Receives Complaints regarding Masturbating Scene

8

Japanese media watchdog group Broadcasting Ethics and Program Improvement Organization (BPO) unveiled a summary of viewer comments they received during the month of January, including several complaints about anime content. The complaints describe the content of the anime but the titles of the anime are not exposed.

One complaint refers to a late-night anime, where a man catches his brother masturbating. It was not said what anime the scene was from, but its more than likely the scene from episode 13 of Osomatsu-san.

Last August, one complaint refers to a late-night anime (Shimoseka) that, while it uses sound modification and censors on certain channels, it has a line that is recognizable as a vulgar word for genitals. It also “uses a gesture that suggests sexual intercourse.” The comment says that the show goes too far because even children can guess what the lewd expressions actually mean.

Another complaint cited the ending of a children’s anime that featured girls in bathing suits. The commenter stated that this is “unnecessary” in a children’s cartoon and “lacks consideration, as there are many child predators.”

Twitter user @trshmst pointed out that the BPO was missing the artistic reference in the still shot which was the source of complaints, which parallels a photograph of Marilyn Monroe.

Set in the fictional Japanese city of Sugomori City, one day Sonosaki tells her classmate Katsuhira: “You have been selected to be a Kiznaiver.” The Kizuna System, which allows Katsuhira to share his wounds, connects him to the classmates whose lives and personalities completely differ from his.

The Kizuna System is an incomplete system for the implementation of world peace that connects people through wounds. All those who are connected to this system are called Kiznaivers. When one Kiznaiver is wounded, the system divides and transmits the wound among the other Kiznaivers.

Sugomori City is built on reclaimed land. But as the years go by, the city’s population is decreasing. The story is set in this town where Katsuhira and the others live.

In an interview in the magazine, scriptwriter Okada stated that the keyword for the series is “kizuna” (connection). The title itself is a play on “kizuna” and “naive.” Okada noted that she wrote the title before the story outline.

Spice and Wolf is a Japanese light novel series written by Isuna Hasekura, with illustrations by Juu Ayakura. ASCII Media Works published 17 novels between February 2006 and July 2011 under their Dengeki Bunko imprint. ASCII Media Works reported that as of October 2008, over 2.2 million copies of the first nine novels have been sold in Japan. The series has been called a “unique fantasy” by Mainichi Shimbun due to the plot focusing on economics, trade, and peddling rather than the typical staples of fantasy such as swords and magic. Yen Press licensed the light novels and is releasing them in English in North America.

A manga adaptation illustrated by Keito Koume began serialization in the November 2007 issue of ASCII Media Works’ seinen manga magazine Dengeki Maoh. The manga was licensed by Yen Press, which has begun releasing the volumes in English. A 12-episode anime adaptation aired between January and March 2008, plus a single original video animation (OVA) episode released in May 2008. A second OVA was released in April 2009 as a prequel to the second anime season Spice and Wolf II, which aired 12 episodes between July and September 2009. Both anime seasons were released in English by Kadokawa Pictures USA and Funimation. Two visual novels based on the series for the Nintendo DS were released by ASCII Media Works in June 2008 and September 2009.

Spice and Wolf synopsis from MAL:

Holo is a powerful wolf deity who is celebrated and revered in the small town of Pasloe for blessing the annual harvest. Yet as years go by and the villagers become more self-sufficient, Holo, who stylizes herself as the “Wise Wolf of Yoitsu,” has been reduced to a mere folk tale. When a traveling merchant named Kraft Lawrence stops at Pasloe, Holo offers to become his business partner if he eventually takes her to her northern home of Yoitsu. The savvy trader recognizes Holo’s unusual ability to evaluate a person’s character and accepts her proposition. Now in the possession of both sharp business skills and a charismatic negotiator, Lawrence inches closer to his goal of opening his own shop. However, as Lawrence travels the countryside with Holo in search of economic opportunities, he begins to realize that his aspirations are slowly morphing into something unexpected.
