Kill La Kill’s Satsuki 1/8 Figure Impressions

2

The recent Good Smile Company release of a 1/8 scale version of Kiryuuin Satsuki early last month has come with some controversy about the quality of the scale that some customers have been receiving. While the official pictures of the prototype that went up when preorders were announced appealed to many fans of Kill La Kill, the finished product has definitely had mixed responses, leaving some to wonder if the quality of the figure was trying to match the ever-fluid art quality of the show itself, despite GSC’s solid track record so far.

The main criticism of the final product seems to be the deviation of the face from prototype to finished product.

A simple comparison of the two pictures above highlight many differences between them. First and foremost are some of Satsuki’s most telling features, her eyebrows. In the prototype they were sharp and forming her signature angry expression, while in the final product they become more like pickled radishes and are much more blob like. Along with the eyebrows are the eyes themselves, with the final product’s looking much less angry and more flat than the prototype had shown, although many defenders of the final product say that with proper lighting the expression of the eyes is not as noticeable. However there is the final difference in the mouth of the figure that has turned off many from the figure. While the prototype features her characteristic grimace with all of the features and actual mouth has, like the vertical groove from the nasal septum to the lip and the upper lip having a characteristic “cupids bow” shape both of which the final product seems to have lost as well as a lot of definition of her lips. Again many consumers claim this problem only seems to exist under certain lighting conditions, but if a problem exists under even one lighting condition it can become a bother in how customers end up displaying the figure, possibly requiring extra setup.

All complaints and defenses aside, Kill la Kill isn’t exactly a show with an art style that translates perfectly into PVC. With Trigger’s “dynamic” art style featured in the show it can be daunting to try and create a figure that captures the details in a way that properly resembles the art style. Taking this into account, the final product was better than many fans of the show could have ever hoped for.

An interesting side note: All complaints about the figure seemed to die down once rotated 180 degrees and placed on a shelf above eye level.

Love Live! Hater Arrested for Making Threats on Twitter

18

A 15-year old male first year high school student from Toyama city has been arrested by the Ogikubo Police on Wednesday on suspicion of  forcible obstruction of business. According to the police, the suspect posted threatening remarks on Twitter directed at fans of the Love Live! School Idol Project music and anime franchise.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evWH_BUZtn4

The suspect posted a message on Twitter in July which states, “I’ll kill every last Love Live! fan in this country with my own hands. Love Live! fans trick you, and are anti-social like the people who scatter leaflets in the theater and step on them. I can’t allow people like that to live. I will surely kill them all.”

The suspect also allegedly posted a photograph of him holding a kitchen knife as shown in the video above. The threats forced official Love Live!-related events to increase security, and security during the Love Live! The School Idol Movie film’s screenings was also increased.

Upon his arrest, he said in a deposition, “I like the anime too, but I hated how badly other fans behaved.”

Love Live! School Idol Project is an original anime produced by Sunrise studios that aired in January 2013. The conception of the anime project was started in 2010 by Dengeki G’s Magazine. The editors wanted parts of the project to be heavily influenced by fans, parts such as the costumes, hairstyles and names of the idols. While this project was taking place, a manga of the project called Love Live!, written and illustrated by Sakurako Kimino and Arumi Tokita, began serializing. An anime series soon premiered, followed by an app and an OVA. The second season titled Love Live! School Idol Project 2nd Season aired from April 6, 2014 to June 29, 2014 for a total of 13 episodes.

Love Live! School Idol Project synopsis of the series from Haruhichan:

Otonokizaka High School stands on the border of three cities: Akihabara—a pop culture mecca that’s evolving by the minute; Kanda—a conservative, cultured city where history and tradition reign supreme; and Jinbo—a quiet area reserved for a more mature, sophisticated population. Amidst this culture clash, the school now faces closure due to the enrollment of fewer and fewer students.

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya is a spin off manga series from Type-Moon’s Fate/stay night franchise by Hiroshi Hiroyama. The manga follows Illyasviel von Einzbern in an alternate universe where she is a magical girl. The manga original released in 2007 in Kadokawa Shoten’s Comp Ace magazine and ran for 2 volumes. A sequel series Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2wei! released in 2009 and another titled Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 3wei! released in 2012, which the latter is still ongoing at 5 volumes  to date. The anime adaptation of the first manga series aired in June 2013 and a second series in July last year, both of which were produced by Silver Link (Kokoro Connect, Non Non Biyori).

Monster Musume Anime visual animeage

The anime adaptation was revealed on the 7th manga volume of Takemaru Inui’s manga series Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou (Everyday That There Is a Monster Girl), there was wraparound jacket band announcement revealing that the TV anime adaptation of the manga will premiere this July, during the summer 2015 anime season.

Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou, usually translated as “Everyday Life with Monster Girls” but also as “Daily Life with a Monster Girl” or “Everyday Monster Girls“, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Okayado. The manga first began as a series of hentai one-shots. An anime adaption has been announced to Air in July 2015.

Monster Musume is currently published in Japan by Tokuma Shoten in their Monthly Comic Ryu magazine and by Seven Seas Entertainment in the United States, with the chapters collected and reprinted into—so far—6 tankobon volumes. The story revolves around Kimihito Kurusu, often referred to as “Darling” among various other things, a Japanese student whose life is totally thrown into turmoil after becoming involved with the “Interspecies Cultural Exchange” program by mistake.

Monster Musume synopsis from Haruhichan:

Monsters—they’re real, and they want to date us! Three years ago, the world learned that harpies, centaurs, catgirls, and all manners of fabulous creatures are not merely fiction; they are flesh and blood—not to mention scale, feather, horn, and fang. Thanks to the “Cultural Exchange Between Species Act,” these once-mythical creatures have assimilated into society, or at least, they’re trying.

When a hapless human named Kurusu Kimihito is inducted as a “volunteer” into the government exchange program, his world is turned upside down. A snake-like lamia named Miia comes to live with him, and it is Kurusu’s job to take care of her and make sure she integrates into his everyday life. Unfortunately for Kurusu, Miia is undeniably sexy, and the law against interspecies breeding is very strict. Even worse, when a ravishing centaur girl and a flirtatious harpy move in, what’s a full-blooded young man with raging hormones to do?!

God Eater was removed from the Top 10 since it did not air last week. It did air this past Sunday so it will be back in the Top 10 for Week 8.

Before people start complaining, the vote difference between Akagami no Shirayuki-hime and Charlotte was 20 votes. Yes, 20 votes. It has never been this close since Mekakucity Actors and No Game No Life battled for #1 during the Spring 2014 Anime Season with a vote difference of 12. Personally, I thought Charlotte should of taken #1 because of all the plot twists in one episode.  Though, Classroom Crisis finally makes it to the Top 10.
