TV vs Blu-Ray – Nisekoi Episode 9

22

Nisekoi from studio Shaft, was one of the 2013/2014 Winter seasons standout shows. While the anime was visually stunning on TV, it would be interesting to see what changes they make in the forthcoming Blu-ray releases. Generally, the Blu-rays are better (Visually, uncensored etc), since the studios have time to reproduce scenes of the anime that may have been rushed to make their schedules and deadlines, like with Non Non Biyori. Sometimes uncensor the anime series, like with Pupa and Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga. Witch Craft Works was visually improved. But as with the Wake Up Girls! release, the quality of the Nisekoi Blu-ray isn’t much better than the TV release.

So what’s wrong with the Blu-ray releases of Nisekoi Volume 4? Shaft has decided to alter the steam of many scenes and decrease and increase the steam on certain scenes. While it is “better” to censor nudity while airing due to TV stations rules, it doesn’t make sense to censor the Blu-ray version since they are mainly purchased for the ‘uncensored’ part. If you wish to see what was changed on Nisekoi Volume 3 click here.

So lets take a look at how the Blu-ray of Nisekoi fairs up with the original TV version.

Nisekoi is a manga series that originally started off as a one shot from Naoshi Komi that released in January 2011. Komi then released the manga as a full series later on in the year, when it appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. Since 2011, 12 volumes have been released for the romantic comedy. Additionally a voiced comic has also been published and a light novel series. Viz Manga has also picked up the series late 2013 for English localisation, announcing that the chapters would be translated and released in Viz’s Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha. A anime adaptation of the manga aired from January this year, and ended in May. The anime is produced by studio Shaft (BakemonogatariMahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica).

Here is a plot synopsis of Nisekoi from Haruhichan:

Though Raku’s a normal high schooler, his family heads the notorious yakuza gang the Shuei-Gumi faction! And he’s dragged into family affairs when he’s forced into a relationship with Chitoge, the daughter of a rival gang’s boss!

Mushishi synopsis from MAL.

“Mushi”: the most basic forms of life in the world. They exist without any goals or purposes aside from simply “being.” They are beyond the shackles of the words “good” and “evil.” Mushi can exist in countless forms and are capable of mimicking things from the natural world such as plants, diseases, and even phenomena like rainbows. This is, however, just a vague definition of these entities that inhabit the vibrant world of Mushishi, as to even call them a form of life would be an oversimplification. Detailed information on Mushi is scarce because the majority of humans are unaware of their existence. So what are Mushi and why do they exist? This is the question that a “Mushi-shi,” Ginko, ponders constantly. Mushi-shi are those who research Mushi in hopes of understanding their place in the world’s hierarchy of life.Ginko chases rumors of occurrences that could be tied to Mushi, all for the sake of finding an answer. It could, after all, lead to the meaning of life itself…

Mushishi Zoku Shou synopsis from Haruhichan.

They existed long before anyone can remember. They are simple and strange in nature, not resembling any other plant or animal in this world. In ancient times, people revered these bizarre creatures and called them “Mushi.”

People once again began to believe in the existence of these “Mushi” when they began affecting their lives in inexplicable ways.

The one who connects the world of “Mushi” to the world of humans — they were called the “Mushi-shi.”

All life exists not to hinder others in this world.
They are simply there to live as they were meant to.

After hearing about a recent unsolved murder which occurred during the fog, the characters—Narukami, Chie, and Yosuke—discuss how each of them had attempted to watch the mysterious TV channel and witnessed the murder victim. The protagonist later realizes that during midnight when the channel is on, his body can phase into his television set as a gateway to enter another world infested with shadows.

After discovering this, they all decide to explore. When first completely entering the world, dazed and confused, Narukami meets Teddie. Mayonaka TV and the town murders seem to have a connection. In the Bakumatsu Rock alternate Japan, writing or singing any songs besides the “Heaven’s Songs” is a capital offense. Ryoma Sakamato and other rockers rise up and change the world with rock ‘n’ roll.

Ryōma: Oh, you there, you there! I am Ryōma Sakamoto! I wanted to play rock, therefore I came to Kyoto, but a group called the Shinsengumi that sing the “Heaven’s Songs” are throwing their weight around! In addition, if one sings any song other than the Heaven’s Songs, it is a capital offense! Then I must not play rock!? Music is free! That kind of rule is preposterous! If this is the case, I shall change the world with my rock! Bakumatsu Rock is starting from the time you see here!

Bakumatsu Rock synopsis from Haruhichan.

The story is set in the Bakumatsu era, at the end of the shoguns’ rule over Japan in the middle of the 19th century. The Tokugawa shogunate uses the brainwashing Heaven’s Songs by the top idols in Shinsengumi to subjugate the country and its people. In this Japan, writing or singing any songs besides the Heaven’s Songs is a capital offense. Sakamoto Ryouma and the other rockers rise up and change the world with rock ‘n’ roll for freedom and justice.

Love Live! School Idol Project is an original anime produced by Sunrise studios that aired in January 2013. The conception of the anime project started in 2010 by Dengeki G’s Magazine. The editors wanted the project to be heavily influenced by fans, such as the costumes, hairstyles and names. Throughout this process, a manga of the project simply called Love Live! began in early 2012 by Sakurako Kimino and Arumi Tokita. The next part in the project was the anime series, followed by this app and an OVA. The second season of Love Live! School Idol Project started airing earlier last year.

Here is a synopsis of the series from Haruhichan:

Otonokizaka High School stands on the border of three cities: Akihabara—a pop culture mecca that’s evolving by the minute; Kanda—a conservative, cultured city where history and tradition reign supreme; and Jinbo—a quiet area reserved for a more mature, sophisticated population. Amidst this culture clash, the school now faces closure due to the enrollment of fewer and fewer students.

With the school planning to close within three years, nine female students come together with one thing in mind—form a pop idol group to revive the school’s popularity and keep it from shutting down. “In order to protect our beloved school, there’s only one thing we can do… become pop stars!”

0

Anime twitter fan user tenkyouin tweeted at Bandai Namco asking if there will ever be a THE iDOLM@STER x Love Live! School Idol Project collaboration. Bandai Namco replied to him: “We are considering it”. This “collaboration” could be anything, from an anime OVA/Special series, a game or an OST CD.

The iDOLM@STER x Love Live! anime

Since both shows are idols it’s highly possible that we may see some collaboration content between the two in the near future. Fans already do crossover fan-art and MAD (Music Anime Douga which basically means Anime Music Video) videos between both projects. What are your thoughts on this subject?
