Video Game publisher PQubes have announced that they will be localising and releasing the acclaimed Steins;Gate visual novel by 5pb. and Nitro+ on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita  in North America and European regions in 2015.

2015-Steins;Gate_Haruhichan.com-PQube-Announcement

The game itself was officially launched in English on PC in North America this year, being published and translated by JAST USA whilst retaining the original Japanese voices. Here was the release trailer for the game:

The series of science adventure games is a collaboration between developers Nito+ and 5pb. The games play out similarly to modern visual novels but notably with the usage of the main character’s device casually known as a trigger. All games focus heavily on scientific methods and theories and are incorporated into the game. The first game in the series was Chaos;Head, which released in 2008 for the PC. The next game, Steins;Gate released in 2009 and finally followed by Robotics;Notes in 2012. Steins;Gate originally released on the Xbox 360 before being ported to the PC, and all current generations, at the time, of consoles in Japan. An anime adaptation of the game was produced in 2011 that was directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki (Terraformars, Blade & Soul) and Takuya Satou (Selector Infected Wixoss, Ichigo Mashimaro) and produced by White Fox (Katanagatari, Jormungand). A sequel film to the anime was produced in 2013 and featured an original story. A sequel light novel titled Steins;Gate The Committee of Antimatter was also produced this year.

Here is the synopsis of the Steins;Gate anime from Haruhichan:

The eccentric mad scientist Okabe, his childhood friend Mayuri, and the otaku hacker Daru have banded together to form the “Future Gadget Research Laboratory,” and spend their days in a ramshackle laboratory hanging out and occasionally attempting to invent incredible futuristic gadgets. However, their claymore is a hydrator and their hair dryer flips breakers, and the only invention that’s even remotely interesting is their Phone Microwave, which transforms bananas into oozing green gel. But when an experiment goes awry, the gang discovers that the Phone Microwave can also send text messages to the past. And what’s more, the words they send can affect the flow of time and have unforeseen, far-reaching consequences—consequences that Okabe may not be able to handle…

Steins;Gate will be releasing on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita sometime in 2015, courtesy of PQube. There has been no further information revealed about the release, including whether it will include Japanese voices or not. More information will be revealed soon.

Snack Reviews: Random Japanese Snacks

4

Since I love trying new things, I decided to buy a bunch of Japanese snacks from abroad. So today, we’ll be taking a look at the snacks I bought! This is no snack box, it’s really what the title says – a bunch of random snacks consisting of a bunch of Umaibo, Meltykiss chocolate, rice spice mix (I guess this isn’t a snack, but oh well) and pack of assorted dagashi. Dagashi are small, inexpensive snacks and candies that Japanese children frequently buy. If you’ve watched the second season of K-On, you probably remember Ritsu and Mugi visiting a dagashi store.

Snack Reviews Random Japanese Snacks Haruhichan.com Japan snacks

UmaiboSnack Reviews Random Japanese Snacks Haruhichan.com umaibo

Umaibo are puffed corn sticks that come in a variety of different flavors. I got the Camembert, fish roe, salami and corn potage flavored umaibos.

The Camembert umaibo has a mild smell of camembert cheese. Once you’ve bitten into it, you’re faced with a piquant short-lasting cheese flavor that gets overwhelmed by a corn flavor that strongly reminds of Cheetos quickly. As someone who frequently has dessert cheeses, I can say that this does not remind me of Camembert, at all. But it’s delicious nevertheless!

Next up is the fish roe-flavored umaibo! Unlike the Camembert one, this one is heavily seasoned with a taste that reminds of BBQ seasoning. The seasoning overwhelms the corn taste of the umaibo, and has a very slight hint of fish roe. If you don’t like fish, this umaibo should be fine for you as it’s not fishy at all. I personally like this one a lot better than the Camembert one, as the taste lasts a lot longer.

Salami is great, and so is the salami-flavored umaibo. The salami flavoring is surprisingly accurate, with just the right balance of flavors. You have the savoury taste of salamis and also a undertone of smokiness. Out of all the umaibos I tried today, this one is probably my favorite!

The corn potage-flavored umaibo has a very creamy sweetcorn taste, sort of like canned sweetcorn, but with a salty and creamier taste to it. It’s a great flavor, but all good things come to an end. However in this case, it comes to an end too soon, just like the Camembert umaibo.

Meiji Meltykiss – Original Premium Chocolate

Kuroyukihime approves!
Kuroyukihime approves!

Meltykiss chocolate pralines have a soft, smooth texture and melt as soon as you put them into your mouth. To be honest, I was expecting the package and pralines to be much bigger, but they turned out to be really, really small. Disappointment warning!

Taste-wise they’re absolutely great. The pralines melt as soon as they’re put into your mouth, to reveal their well-balanced taste. These pralines have the richness and complexity of dark chocolate, but also the smoothness of milk chocolate. Definitely something I’d buy again despite how small the package is!

Happy Pandaro gummy (Part of dagashi pack)Snack Reviews Random Japanese Snacks Haruhichan.com Happy Pandaro gummy

A not-so sweet and chewy gummy candy, with a somewhat sour, distinctive apple taste. Nothing special, really.

Melon tablets (Part of dagashi pack)Snack Reviews Random Japanese Snacks Haruhichan.com Melon tablets

These melon-tasting tablet-shaped candies quickly dissolve in your mouth to reveal a sour, melon-y taste.

Mini konpeito (Part of dagashi pack)Snack Reviews Random Japanese Snacks Haruhichan.com Mini konpeito

Konpeito are traditional Japanese candies originating from the old capital city of Japan, Kyoto. These are simply small balls of sugar, nothing else! The red ones had a very mild strawberry flavor, while the white ones were really just 100% sugar and uh, tasted of sugar?

Random jelly (Part of dagashi pack)Snack Reviews Random Japanese Snacks Haruhichan.com Random jelly

Jelly. Sweet flavor, not much else other than that. Pretty bland and boring.

Fried rice crackers (Part of dagashi pack)Snack Reviews Random Japanese Snacks Haruhichan.com Fried rice crackers

Small, crunchy fried rice bits. Salty, and has a very fragrant rice flavor that reminds of Asian tea crackers made out of rice flour. If you’ve had fried breadsticks before, then that is exactly how these taste!

Grape-flavored chewing gums (Part of dagashi pack)Snack Reviews Random Japanese Snacks Haruhichan.com Grape-flavored chewing gums

These gums come in a package so tiny it’s cute! Each package contains 4 small chewing gums, but you might want to chew 2-3 at a time since they really are small. Works for blowing bubbles, if that’s your thing! They have a very realistic flavor of grapes, not too sweet and not too sour. The zingy taste lasts for quite a while.

Umaibo candy (Part of dagashi pack)Snack Reviews Random Japanese Snacks Haruhichan.com Umaibo candy

It tastes just like the corn potage umaibo! It’s a hard candy with a slightly sweet corn flavor. Unlike its umaibo equivalent, it lasts for quite a while.

Marumiya sukiyaki beef flavored rice mixSnack Reviews Random Japanese Snacks Haruhichan.com Marumiya sukiyaki beef flavored rice mix

The first thing you’ll notice when you open the package is a very strong, but pleasant, smell of meat. The spice mix looks like it consists of very small bits of meat, egg (think scrambled egg bits), nori strips (dried seaweed) and various spices. Together they create a taste that reminds of beef soup, but much stronger. The taste is rich, savoury and really just packs a huge punch of flavor. Definitely a great thing to have at home, I’m a huge fan!

The spice mix works the same way as sauce/gravy does, so a sprinkle of this and your bowls of rice are good to go! One packet of spice mix is good for 7-10 bowls of rice since just a little bit of the spice mix is enough.

And that’s it for today, hope you enjoyed reading this article as much as I enjoyed writing it! Do you have any snack recommendations, or any questions? Feel free to discuss and ask below in the comments!

Parasyte’s Opening Theme Gets Redrawn to Look More like the Manga

A Niconico user who goes by the username Kurobaru has redrawn Parasyte‘s anime opening theme sequence to look more like the manga. The opening theme song is titled Let Me Hear by Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas.

Parasyte-Anime-Visual-1

Parasyte is a science fiction horror manga series written and illustrated by Hitoshi Iwaaki, and published in Kodansha’s Afternoon magazine from 1990 to 1995. The manga was published in North America by first Tokyopop, then Del Rey, and finally Kodansha Comics USA. The manga is being adapted into two live-action films in Japan in 2014 and 2015. An anime television series adaptation is currently airing

Parasyte synopsis from Haruhichan:

Based on Iwaaki Hitoshi’s science-fiction horror manga by the same name.

The 17-year-old Izumi Shinichi lives with his mother and father in a quiet neighborhood in Tokyo. One night, worm-like aliens called Parasytes invade Earth, taking over the brains of human hosts by entering through their ears or noses. One Parasyte attempts to crawl into Shinichi’s ear while he sleeps, but fails since he is wearing headphones, and enters his body by burrowing into his arm instead, taking over his right hand and is named Migi.

Because Shinichi was able to prevent Migi from traveling further up into his brain, both beings retain their separate intellect and personality. As the duo encounter other Parasytes, they capitalize on their strange situation and gradually form a strong bond, working together to survive. This gives them an edge in battling other Parasytes, who frequently attack the pair upon realization that Shinichi’s human brain is still intact. Shinichi feels compelled to fight other Parasytes, who devour humans as food, while enlisting Migi’s help.

Crayon Shin-chan (also known as Shin Chan in some countries), is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshito Usui. It follows the adventures of the five-year-old Shinnosuke “Shin” Nohara and his parents, baby sister, dog, neighbours, and friends and is set in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture. An anime adaptation of the series began airing on TV Asahi in 1992, and continues to this day.

Crayon Shin-chan synopsis from MAL:

Crayon Shin-chan follows the wacky antics and adventures of five-year-old Shinnosuke “Shin” Nohara and his parents, neighbors, and friends and is set in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, Japan.

Many of the jokes in the series stem from Shin-chan’s occasionally weird, unnatural and inappropriate use of language, as well as from his inappropriate behavior. A typical gag involves Shin-chan confounding his parents by using the wrong phrase for the occasion; for example, saying “Welcome back!” instead of “I am back!” when he comes home.

During the beginning of the series, the TV show was mostly based on the storyline in the original manga. As the show progressed, more and more episodes became anime-original.

Fate/Apocrypha’s Ruler Joins E2046’s Gathering Collection

5

Jeanne d’Arc (Joan of Arc), Ruler class servant from TYPE-MOON’s canceled game: Fate/Apocrypha, joins E2046’s Gathering Collection. This beauty looks both fantastic and fierce in her elegant knight’s garment, which seems to have taken inspiration from old European garments. The coloring work and the details of her armament are brilliantly done and adds a nice graceful touch, giving the figurine a clean and polished presentation that is difficult to look away from.

Although Jeanne isn’t properly introduced in any of TYPE-MOON’s animated series, she makes an appearance in Fate/Zero when Caster witnesses a fight between Saber and Lancer, mistaking Saber’s identity for Jeanne’s.

Fate/Apocrypha – Jeanne – Pre-orders for this pre-painted and garage kit version of this figurine are available on E2046 and is expected to be released on the 18th of December, this year.

Koe No Katachi Anime Adaptation Has Been Green-Lit haruhichan.com A Silent Voice manga The shape of voice anime announced

Koe no Katachi one-shot synopsis from MAL:

A one-shot about a grade school class that accepts a girl with impaired hearing. Although this one-shot won the 80th Weekly Shounen Magazine Newbie Best Mangaka Award, the vector of the content made it difficult for publication on any manga magazine, until it was picked up, after months of legal dispute, by the February edition of Bessatsu Shounen Magazine, where it got first place despite its being a one-shot. This one-shot was recently re-published in 12th issue of the 2013 Weekly Shounen Magazine.

Koe no Katachi synopsis from Haruhichan:

Ishida Shouya bullies a deaf girl, Nishimiya Shouko, to the point that she drops out of school. As a result, he is ostracized and bullied himself with no friends to speak of and no plans for the future.

This is the story of his path to redemption.
