The game itself will be developed by Dimps, who produced the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai series for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable, and Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit for the PlayStation 3. The game will feature a full 3D fighting and destructible environments similar to recent titles in the franchise. One major new feature of the game is that it has an original story and a new player created custom character. The game involves time travel where a bunch of demons, named Mira and Towa (from Dragon Ball Online) have affected the timeline of the series. The Supreme Kai of Time notices this problem and calls the aid of a new mysterious character from the future, you.

The game is initially set in Tokitoki City where players will be able to meet a different version of Trunks, where he will send the player back in time in order to fix the time distortions created by the demonic pair. Here is where the player can create their own character, a similar premise to Dragon Ball Online. Players can choose the race of their character from Earthling, Namekian, Majin and Frieza.

Bandai Namco have also released the European box art of the game on consoles:

Dragon Ball Xenoverse is the upcoming instalment in Dragon Ball‘s long running franchise of games. It will be developed by Dimps and published by Bandai Namco Games. It will be Dimps’ 11th game in the franchise, with their last game being Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit for the PlayStation 3. Over 50 games have been developed based on Akira Toriyama’s top selling manga of the same name, since 1986 – two years after the manga’s debut. The series even spawned a MMO titled Dragon Ball Heroes which released for the PC.

Psycho-Pass is a Japanese anime television series that was produced by Production I.G, directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani and written by Gen Urobuchi. The series was aired on Fuji TV’s Noitamina programming block between October 2012 and March 2013. The story takes place in an authoritarian future dystopia, where omnipresent public sensors continuously scan the Psycho-Pass of every citizen in range. The sensors measure mental state, personality, and the probability that the citizen will commit crimes, alerting authorities when someone exceeds accepted norms. To enforce order, the officers of the Public Safety Bureau carry hand weapons called Dominators. These gun-like devices instantaneously assess the Psycho-Pass of a targeted individual, determine whether a shot is allowed, and control how powerful it can be in a range from temporary paralysis to complete disintegration. They extend even further the social control exerted by the central authorities. The story follows Akane Tsunemori, Shinya Kogami, and other members of Unit One of the Public Safety Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Division, and the crimes they investigate.

Psycho-Pass originated from Production I.G.’s interest in making a successor to Mamoru Oshii’s achievements. The series was inspired by several live-action films. Chief director Katsuyuki Motohiro aimed to explore psychological themes in society’s youth using dystopian storylines. Several rules were used to focus on making the dystopia that the characters live in.

A second season begin airing in October 2014 followed by an animated film to be released in the first quarter of 2015. A manga adaptation has been in serialization in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine and several novels, including an adaptation and prequels to the original story, have been published. An episodic video game adaptation called Chimi Chara Psycho-Pass was developed by Nitroplus Staffers in collaboration with Production I.G. New novels and another manga are due to be serialized in 2014. Critical reception of the series has been mostly positive; the setting of the series and the cases which develop the protagonists were praised. Special mention was given to the villain and philosophy discussed in the series. However, the series’ gruesome imagery and aspects of the setting were criticized.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song to Be Set in Alfheim

0

The third Sword Art Online game to be released, Lost Song, will change from its two predecessors in more ways than one. In fact, Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment and Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment were both taking place in Aincrad, the setting of the first, eponymous arc of the series. Lost Song, however, switches from the deadly Aincrad to the more fancy Alfheim; setting of the second arc and various others, Fairy Dance, Caliber and Mother’s Rosario.

Sword-Art-Online-Lost-Song-Screenshot-1_Haruhichan.com_

Thirty-six screenshots of the game were posted, introducing some brand new gameplay additions. Three hundred and sixty degrees movement, flight, magic and whatnot. Exactly the new elements that were introduced in Alfheim Online in the canon story. The game is also advertised to make the player much more free of movement and to have a “seamless” transition between exploration and combat. There will still be Sword Skills, but magic will hold a newly important spot in the gameplay. Another addition concerns gameplay. While in the two previous games you could only team up with one partner, you can now team up with two partners. The characters that have already been introduced are firstly and of course, Kirito then Asuna (the post-Fairy Dance Undine version), Lyfa, Lisbeth, Silica and Klein. It is not known if Yuuki, Erika (Asuna’s reroll character) and Sinon are to be included as well.

Is Armin from Attack on Titan Really a Girl?

9

Back in October Attack on Titan’s Author Isayama Hajime was interviewed in the November 2014 issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine. He gave us a rather sarcastic response to a certain question, if Armin was a girl. People believed he responded with a yes in response to the Niconico meme (Niconico users posted comments like “Armin is the heroine of the series!” and “truly an angel!” when the series was airing).

Today a new cover was posted by the Japanese popular culture magazine Brutus which is drawn by Isayama Hajime. It shows the Survey Corps relaxing in Ueno Park while dressed in school uniforms. Who is that skirt wearing figure to the far right Krista, or Armin?

Attack on Titan x Marvel Universe Teaser Posted haruhichan.com Shingeki no Kyojin x Marvel Crossover teaser BRUTUS

What concerns me is: If that is Krista, where is Armin and why isn’t Ymir there? Why is Krista there instead of Armin? Is Isayam Hajime playing tricks on us? Only time will tell.

The artwork only displays two panels, where we see Spider-Man whacking the female titan with what looks like the Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear Blade or beam of some sort. The bottom panel shows Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow, confirming their involvement in a world where titans are causing havoc. The accompanying article also revealed that this particular fight will take place in New York City.

Japanese Otakus Comment on MyAnimeList’s Top Fall 2014 Anime

28

We are approaching the halfway point for the Fall 2014 anime season and many people have already started to form their opinions on the season’s top and worst series so far. One of the ways to identify which series are worth watching is by looking at the ratings and rankings of the series on anime community websites, and the biggest one is MyAnimeList. Whilst it is not the best method of calculating the best series it is one of the most widely used scales where many people use and depend on it. But of course not everyone will agree on the rankings, especially with how the site is dominated by Western flags.

A recent post on the Japanese news blog Yaraon has compiled the top rated anime from this season and presented the list to their audience, who are Japanese anime fans. And the comments themselves were rather shocked at what Western anime fans rated the best (so far).

Here is the ratings and rankings of the top anime from Fall 2014 so far (as of October 26th):

MyAnimeLists-Top-Fall-Autumn-2014-Anime-26-10-14

1. Fate/stay night (2014) 8.84
2. Mushishi Zoku Shou 2nd Season 8.78
3. Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu 8.30
4. Psycho-Pass 2 8.23
5. Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road 8.22
6. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso 8.21
7. Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis 7.85
8. Gundam Build Fighters Try 7.85

10. Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle 7.61
11. Ookami Shoujo to Kuro Ouji 7.57
12. Trinity Seven 7.56
13. Grisaia no Kajitsu 7.53
14. Madan no Ou to Vanadis 7.52
15. Gugure! Kokkuri-san 7.51
16. Selector Infected WIXOSS 7.47
17. Akatsuki no Yona 7.43
18. Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de 7.33
19. Shirobako 7.21
20. Garo: Honoo no Kokuin 7.20
21. Donten ni Warau 7.13
22. Denki-gai no Honya-san 7.06
23. Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru 7.05
24. Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai 7.01
25. Sora no Method 6.97
26. Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu. 6.88
27. Terra Formars 6.71
28. Gundam: G no Reconguista 6.60
29. Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete 6.60
30. Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo 6.49
31. GirlFriend (Kari) 5.80

The blog commenters are not pleased with the ratings, especially with ufotable’s Fate/stay night (2014) taking 1st place, surprised that the second season of Mushishi Zoku Shou taking 2nd, and that Yoshiyuki Tomino’s Gundam: G no Reconguista not getting well received at all.

Here is a small collection of their comments, with some translations by redditor DragonsOnOurMountain:

3位に寄生獣があるのはあいつらのジョークなのか
Parasyte is ranked third, is this a joke?

I think it’s a reasonable ranking
It’ll be interesting to see this season if Parasyte will know of the existence of its manga

BF>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Gレコwwwwwwwwwwww
Gundam Battle Figures >>>>>>>>> Gundam: G no Reconguista lol lol lol lol

Gundam: G no Reconguista is only well received by Tomino fans

Eroge should not be first place

G Reco’s content is not well received by any non-Tomino fan

It’s surprising how Build Fighters season 2 is received by foreigners

In response:

It’s because there’s also a big Gunpla culture to the popular Gundam itself in Asia.
Gunpla championships are being accepted entries in Taiwan and in Hong Kong.

Mushishi is simply high quality, no?
It’s funny that it’s one below Fate

Girlfriend (Beta) is the lowest of all the eroge anime
The anime can be bad, but it’s more than that
I wonder if it’s because the large amount of voice actors has almost no demand to foreigners.

No way an eroge is first place

Gundam: G no Reconguista is rated low since it’s boring lol

Foreigners probably can’t understand Kokkuri-san

Shirobako and Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete are rate too low

I forgot Mushishi existed lol

エロゲwww
Eroge [Fate/stay night] lol

Ore, Twintails had a cute heroine fapfap. I love small boobs the most.

Only some are clamoring about Ore Twintails

In response:

Ore Twintails will have 3-digit sales

Twintails is also low lol

The sales of SAO decrease and
they are eaten up by Fate

I wonder if there are also seiyuu pigs [hardcore voice actor fans] overseas

Leaving out sequels we’ve got Parasyte, Your lie in April, and Bahamut,
huh That’s reasonable

Cross Ange too low or not lol

In response:

It’s in a pinch
It’s an anime for Mizuki only so she could sing the theme song

In response:

*crying*
Fate
Fate exceeds Hollywood!!!

I’m somehow not sure Gundam is not popular overseas

I feel the ranking is not so strange except the order of quality for a few

The Sora no Method ranking is roughly the same as here

Seven Deadly Sins and Log Horizon season 2 did not even enter the ranking?

Wouldn’t you understand it more if rating was replaced by popularity?

It’s a reasonable ranking

Please also buy the discs foreigners

It wouldn’t hurt for Mushishi to be more talked about in Japan

It’s surprising that Mushishi and Shigatsu are at the top
Those guys know the goodness of these anime
On the other hand, Terraformars is low. Even though it is likely to be received well to foreigners since it looks very American

Foreigners are limited and don’t know the joys of Shirobako
It might be a culture issue

Foreigners don’t understand Shirobako since it’s likely they don’t understand all the small inside jokes

And here is Japan’s ranking for the top 20 anime of the season, which is sorted by the popularity of the series:

Japan-Top-Fall-Autumn-2014-Anime-26-10-14

1. Nanatsu no Taizai 23.8%
2. Gundam: G no Reconguista 22.6%
3. Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works 20.5%
4. Magic Kaito 1412 19.3%
5. Yowamushi Pedal: Grande Road 18.7%
6. Terra Formars 18.4%
7. Sword Art Online II 17.8%
8. Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu (Parasyte -the maxim-) 17.2%
9. Sailor Moon Crystal 16.6%
10. Girlfriend (Kari) 16.3%
11. Psycho-pass Season 2 16.3%
12. Denki-gai no Honya-san 15.1%
13. Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru ka Wakaranai Ken 14.8%
14. Akame ga Kill! 14.5%
15. Mushishi Zoku Shou Season 2 13.3%
16. World Trigger 13.0%
17. Grisaia no Kajitsu 12.7%
18. Gugure! Kokkuri-san 12.3%
19. Amagi Brilliant Park 12.0%
20. Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai 12.0%

And of course the Japanese rankings aren’t without negative comments as well:

むしろ日本のランキングがおかしい
Japan’s ranking is rather funny

Japan’s rankings are definitely garbage in comparison

So what did you think about the rankings and the comments?
