Gintama Manga to Enter Final Arc in 2016

9

It has been revealed in the 63rd volume of Hideaki Sorachi’s Gintama manga on Friday that the manga will enter the final arc this year. He also added that he does not know himself if the manga will end this year or next.

Sorachi had mentioned at last year’s Jump Festa event that the manga would enter its final arc this year. Afterward he received various worried letters from fans, so he clarified in this volume that he did not say whether or not the manga was ending this year.

New Gintama Series Slated for April 2015 haruhichan.com Gintama new season

Gintama, is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi and serialized, beginning on December 8, 2003, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. Set in Edo which has been conquered by aliens named Amanto, the plot follows life from the point of view of samurai Gintoki Sakata, who works as a freelancer alongside his friends Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura in order to pay the monthly rent. Sorachi added the science fiction setting to develop characters to his liking after his editor suggested doing a historical series.

The series has been adapted into an original video animation (OVA) by Sunrise and was featured at Jump Festa 2006 Anime Tour in 2005. This was followed by a full anime series titled Gintama that premiered in 2006 and continued until 2010. After a small hiatus, Gintama returned under the name Gintama (2011) and aired until March 26, 2012 with a total of 51 episodes. After another small hiatus, Gintama returned under the name Gintama’ Enchousen with a total of 13 episodes which aired from October 4, 2012 to March 28th, 2013. It also inspired two movies, Gintama: Shinyaku Benizakura-hen and Gintama: Kanketsu-hen – Yorozuya yo Eien Nare. Weekly Shonen Jump’s 33rd issue had teased that the manga is celebrating over a decade of serialization with “OOO” (an unrevealed term that can be spelled with three Japanese syllables).

In Japan, the Gintama manga has been popular, selling over 46 million copies. The anime and its DVDs have been featured, at various time, in Top Ten of their respective media, while TV Tokyo has announced that the first Gintama anime was responsible for high sales overseas along with the anime adaptation from Naruto. Publications for manga, anime and others have commented on the Gintama manga. Positive response have focused on the comedy and characters from the series, while negative responses concern the manga’s artwork.

Gintama synopsis from Haruhichan:

Life isn’t easy in feudal Japan… especially since the aliens landed and conquered everything! Oh sure, the new health care is great, but the public ban on the use of swords has left a lot of defeated samurai with a difficult decision to make concerning their future career paths! This is especially true if, as in the case of Gintoki Sakata, they’re not particularly inclined towards holding a day job, which is why Gintoki’s opted for the freelance route, taking any job that’s offered to him as long as the financial remuneration sounds right. Unfortunately, in a brave new world filled with stray bug-eyed monsters, upwardly mobile Yakuza and overly ambitious E.T. entrepreneurs, those jobs usually don’t pay as well as they should for the pain, suffering and indignities endured!

Bleach follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki after he obtains the powers of a Soul Reaper, a death personification similar to the Grim Reaper—from another Soul Reaper, Rukia Kuchiki. His newfound powers force him to take on the duties of defending humans from evil spirits and guiding departed souls to the afterlife, and set him on journeys to various ghostly realms of existence.

Bleach has been serialized in the Japanese manga anthology Weekly Shonen Jump since August 2001, and has been collected into 65 tankobon volumes as of September 2014. The series has spawned a media franchise that includes an animated television series that was produced by Studio Pierrot from 2004 to 2012, two original video animations, four animated feature films, ten rock musicals, and numerous video games, as well as many types of Bleach-related merchandise. English-language releases of Bleach are coordinated by Viz Media, which has released several volumes of the manga each year since 2004, and published chapters of Bleach in its Shonen Jump magazine since November 2007. 62 such volumes are available in English as of November 2014. Viz Media secured foreign television and home video distribution rights to the Bleach anime in 2006. Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim began airing dubbed episodes of Bleach in the United States that Fall, and Hulu later began to stream subtitled versions of the anime a week after each episode aired in Japan. Viz Media has also released each of the Bleach feature films in English.

Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem Gets Its Official Western Title as Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

0

During the most recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo shed more light on their upcoming Wii U JRPG, previously known as Genei Ibun Roku #FE. Nintendo revealed that the game will release on June 24 worldwide, and the official Western title is Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. The game will feature Japanese dub with English subtitles only. Nintendo said the reason for the Japanese dub only was due to the game’s huge Japanese influence. The game’s setting in popular locations in modern-day Tokyo, as well as the focus on idol J-pop, are the main contributing factors for the decision.

The game was first revealed during a Nintendo Direct in January 2013 as Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem. Two years of silence followed until 2015, when Nintendo showed off the first trailer for the game since its reveal. During E3 2015, Nintendo gave the first details about the game which explained the setting of the game, as well as the general story. At the time, Nintendo revealed that Atlus was given full development of the game. Initially revealed as a joint collaboration game with Intelligent Systems, the creators of the Fire Emblem series, the direction of the game eventually went into Atlus’ field of expertise. The crossover comes mostly from Atlus’ traditional Shin Megami Tensei/Persona fight system, combined with the weapon triangle of Fire Emblem games and Fire Emblem characters.

Avex Group was placed in charge of the music of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. Avex Group is one of Japan’s top music labels, owning Sony Music Entertainment Japan, Universal Music Japan, and King Records as subsidiaries. The composer is Yoshiaki Fujisawa, who created the music of Love Live!. The music team decided to go for more a authentic J-pop music feel, as opposed to anime themes.

When it came to choosing voice actors for the in-game performers, the team decided to go for voice actors that could both voice act and sing well. The Japanese voice acting cast is as follows:

  • Ryohei Kimura (Hideki Hinata from Angel Beats!) as Itsuki Aoi

Tokyo Mirage Sessions Itsuki Aoi

  • Tomokazu Sugita (Gintoki from Gintama) as Chrom

Tokyo Mirage Sessions Chrom

  • Inori Minase (Hestia from DanMachi) as Tsubasa Oribe

Tokyo Mirage Sessions Tsubasa Oribe

  • Saori Hayami (Miyuki Shiba from Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei) as Caeda

Tokyo Mirage Sessions Caeda

  • Yuuki Ono (Taiga Kagami from Kuroko no Basket) as Toma Akagi

Tokyo Mirage Sessions Toma Akagi

  • Toshiki Masuda (Toranosuke Miyamura from Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches) as Cain

Tokyo Mirage Sessions Cain

  • Yoshino Nanjo (Eri Ayase from Love Live!) as Kiria Kurono

Tokyo Mirage Sessions Kiria Kurono

  • Ayane Sakura (Nao Tomori from Charlotte) as Eleonora Yumizuru
  • Ami Koshimizu (Ryuuko Matoi from Kill La Kill) as Maiko Shimazaki
  • Sumire Morohoshi (Ichigo Hoshimiya from Aikatsu!) as Tiki

The game was fairly well received in Japan, but had disappointing sales numbers. Reviewers praised the music, originality, and gameplay. It received a Dengeki Online Award and was called “a masterpiece”, with general praise going towards the battle system.

I’m personally all for this, as the Wii U could use more RPGs. Wit the Wii U not getting Persona 5, I feel this is a game to help fill the void for JRPG fans. However, the game already has a polarizing reputation among JRPG fans here in the West, so I’m curious what you guys think about it. Leave your thoughts in the comments!

One Piece is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump since July 19, 1997; the individual chapters are being published in tankoubon volumes by Shueisha, with the first released on December 24, 1997, and the 75th volume released as of September 2014. One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young man whose body gains the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit, and his diverse crew of pirates, named the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy explores the ocean in search of the world’s ultimate treasure known as One Piece in order to become the next Pirate King.

The chapters have been adapted into an original video animation (OVA) produced by Production I.G in 1998, and an anime series produced by Toei Animation, which began broadcasting in Japan in 1999. Since then, the still continuing series has aired over 672 episodes. Additionally, Toei has developed thirteen animated feature films, two OVA’s, and five television specials.

One Piece has received wide critical acclaim, primarily for its art, characterization, humor and story. Several volumes of the manga have broken publishing records, including highest initial print run of any book in Japan and the first book to sell over three million copies in Oricon history. As of 2013, the series had over 345 million volumes in circulation worldwide, making it the best-selling manga series in history.

One Piece synopsis from Haruhichan:

Gol D. Roger was known as the Pirate King, the strongest and most infamous being to have sailed the Grand Line. The capture and death of Roger by the World Government brought a change throughout the world. His last words before his death revealed the location of the greatest treasure in the world, One Piece. It was this revelation that brought about the Grand Age of Pirates, men who dreamed of finding One Piece(which promises an unlimited amount of riches and fame), and quite possibly the most coveted of titles for the person who found it, the title of the Pirate King.

Enter Monkey D. Luffy, a 17-year-old boy that defies your standard definition of a pirate. Rather than the popular persona of a wicked, hardened, toothless pirate who ransacks villages for fun, Luffy’s reason for being a pirate is one of pure wonder; the thought of an exciting adventure and meeting new and intriguing people, along with finding One Piece, are his reasons of becoming a pirate. Following in the footsteps of his childhood hero, Luffy and his crew travel across the Grand Line, experiencing crazy adventures, unveiling dark mysteries and battling strong enemies, all in order to reach One Piece.
