Love Live! School Idol Project is an original anime produced by Sunrise studios that aired in January 2013. The conception of the anime project started in 2010 by Dengeki G’s Magazine. The editors wanted the project to be heavily influenced by fans, such as the costumes, hairstyles and names. Throughout this process, a manga of the project simply called Love Live! began in early 2012 by Sakurako Kimino and Arumi Tokita. The next part in the project was the anime series, followed by this app and an OVA. The second season of Love Live! School Idol Project aired last year and an anime film will be released this Summer.

Here is a synopsis of the series from Haruhichan:

Otonokizaka High School stands on the border of three cities: Akihabara—a pop culture mecca that’s evolving by the minute; Kanda—a conservative, cultured city where history and tradition reign supreme; and Jinbo—a quiet area reserved for a more mature, sophisticated population. Amidst this culture clash, the school now faces closure due to the enrollment of fewer and fewer students.

With the school planning to close within three years, nine female students come together with one thing in mind—form a pop idol group to revive the school’s popularity and keep it from shutting down. “In order to protect our beloved school, there’s only one thing we can do… become pop stars!”

Melee on the Gamecube, and its fourth incarnation, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Competitors will have to work their way through three rounds of bracket pools before climbing to top eight. Keep in mind that this is a double elimination tournament, therefore even if a player is eliminated from the winners bracket, you will have a chance at redemption in the losers bracket.

Thanks to a crowdfunding effort proposed by the event coordinators of Genesis 3, called the Genesis 3 Compendium, other events will include an eight-man invitational tournament for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and a “Super Smash Bros. Melee Draft Crew Battle.”

The Smash Draft – for short – will have eight team captains select five players each from a list of the top 64 best players of 2015, as ranked by prominent community website, Melee it on Me. Of those 64 players, 40 will be drafted into the final single elimination bracket where the winning team will walk away with $1,000 to be split between them. The team captains consist of:

  • Liquid | Hungrybox (1st at MLG World Finals 2015)
  • Tempo Storm | Westballz (2nd at DreamHack London 2015)
  • Counter Logic Gaming | PewPewU (1st at NorCal Regionals 2015)
  • Counter Logic Gaming | SFAT (2nd at NorCal Regionals 2015)
  • HugS (6th at PAX Prime 2015)
  • Liquid | Ken (1st at EVO 2007)
  • Melee it on Me | Scar (Founder of MIOM, 6th at Genesis 1)
  • Tempo Storm | Axe (3rd at MLG World Finals 2015)

Additionally, a trend amongst Super Smash Bros. tournaments – such as Apex and Evo – is to feature a Salty Suite which will have the saltiest, fiercest of Melee rivals go head-to-head for either money or glory. While the line-up hasn’t been officially announced yet, Showdown.gg uploaded a teaser of the upcoming exhibition:

While competitor registration has ended, those hoping to spectate the occasion can register for a $30 Sunday-only pass or a $40 3-day pass over at smash.gg. If you’re not able to attend the event in person, don’t fret for Genesis 3 will be streaming live on Twitch, though the official SmashBoards thread notes that the schedule is still “coming soon.”

Given that Genesis tournaments are not annual and only happen three-to-four years from each other, this could prove to be another monumental showcase of what the Smash community and the competitors themselves are capable of. Could Joseph Marquez a.k.a. Mang0 make a comeback like he did at GENES1S, surmounting the losers bracket and winning both sets against Armada? Will Mang0’s fellow Smash “god” Armada sit on the throne once again or might we even see a new victor that will reign supreme?

Find out through Friday, January 15th to Sunday, January 17th and check out smash.gg/g3 for more details!

Higurashi When They Cry, known simply as When They Cry for the North American release of the anime adaptation, is a Japanese murder mystery doujin soft sound novel series produced by 07th Expansion. The games are built on the NScripter game engine and are playable on the Windows operating system. The first game in the series, Onikakushi-hen, was released on August 10, 2002, and the eighth and final game in the original PC series, Matsuribayashi-hen, was released on August 13, 2006. While the first four games carried the overall title Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, the next four games were produced under the title Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai. A bonus fan disc called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei was released on December 31, 2006. In addition to the original series, new story arcs were created in manga form and in video games for the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS in order to expand upon the story. The original eight PC releases were released in English by MangaGamer in 2009 and 2010. The series is focused on a group of young friends and the strange events that occur in the rural village of Hinamizawa, where they reside.

Two sets of drama CDs were produced, one by Wayuta and the other by Frontier Works. Novelizations of the game series were released by Kodansha Box between August 2007 and March 2009. A manga series adapted from the games began with eight different manga artists working separately on one to three of the multiple story arcs and is published by Square Enix and Kadokawa Shoten. The manga was licensed for release in English in North America by Yen Press under the title Higurashi When They Cry and the first volume was released in November 2008. Following the manga’s release in Japan, two TV anime series were produced by Studio Deen in 2006 and 2007; a third anime adaptation was released as an original video animation (OVA) series in 2009. The first anime series was licensed by Geneon Entertainment in English, but the license expired in 2011. Sentai Filmworks has since licensed both anime seasons and the Rei OVAs. A live action film adaptation of the series, directed by Ataru Oikawa, premiered in Japanese theaters in May 2008, with a sequel released in May 2009.
