Happy 75th Birthday Hayao Miyazaki!

1

Happy 75th birthday to Hayao Miyazaki! We all know and love him, cherish him as if he were a fond uncle. The stories he’s brought to life, the worlds full of wonder, the characters close to our hearts…we would not be the same without them. Once captured our eyes, then our hearts as we sat, speechless, admiring his fairy tales. I remember the very first Hayao Miyazaki movie I had seen, Spirited Away. The world whisked me away, I rooted for San (yes, I even forgot her name) and Haku. Even the other spirits whom were portrayed as antagonistic I was intrigued by and yearned to learn more. It’s rare to create such a vivid masterpiece. Miyazaki never fails to impress.

This internationally renowned anime director celebrates his 75th year of life on January 5th. Soon after, on January 15th, Nippon Television Network will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of Studio Ghibli’s first movie with a broadcast of their Castle in the Sky, followed by the studio’s fourth, Kiki’s Delivery Service the following week.

In the years 2013 and 2011 the broadcasts of the movie were marked by “Balse” or “BALS” Festivals. Fans participated on social media, breaking Twitter’s Tweets-per-second records (from 33,388 to 143,199), by joining leads Sheeta and Pazu as they cast the final spell. Studio Ghibli co-founder/producer Toshio Suzuki recently revealed that Miyazaki was unaware of this phenomenon.

For their 30th anniversary there will be a BALS Button online.

There’s a superstition that when a Ghibli movie is broadcast the same day as the US government releases its job numbers, the labor report will be weak. However, fortunately, US numbers come up a week ahead of the double billing.

Below are just a handful of the tributes dedicated to this innovative genius, whom without we would not have grown to love such inspiring worlds and characters who stick with us even today.

With One Punch-Man there are two source versions – ONE’s original Web manga and Yuusuke Murata’s publication. The anime itself has taken more inspiration from Murata’s version, which is written by ONE. Reddit user tsumehtai has compiled some comparisons for the TV anime and the two manga versions of One Punch-Man, with the order being anime, Murata’s manga and ONE’s manga.

Love Live!’s μ’s Not Breaking Up

1

Emi Nitta, who plays Honoka, said that μ’s is absolutely not breaking up! During the 9 member group’s rehersals for Kouhaku Uta Gassen!, Nitta explained that the “μ’s Final Love Live!” concert will not actually be their last concert, but will be their final concert alone. That only leaves more questions and speculations of perhaps more preformances with IdolM@ster groups or the ascending AQUORS from Love Live!.  Having previously heard of their contract ending in April and the foreboding title of “last live”, we thought that meant μ’s was no more. Nico Yazawa’s voice actress, Sora Tokui, added that  “μ’s Final Love Live!” is actually just the culmination of their work.

“μ’s Final Love Live!” will be held for two days, from March 31 – April 1, 2016.

Festivities were raging as otaku lined up at vending machines placed outside local Lawson convenience stores for the chance to purchase a limited edition Puella Magi Madoka Magica coffee! So, why were anime fans willing to spend so much for just some coffee? There was merchandise included! Each can of the special edition café au lait flavored hot drink produced by Wonda Coffee came with Puella Magi Madoka Magica inspired artwork and 1 randomly determined can badge from a series of 5 in total. Combining the magical girl anime we know and love, along with coffee to keep you going through the huge event, and gashapon-like prizes is ingenious! Dedicated fans would have to spend at least 10,000 yen (83.23 USD) to collect them all.

Dimension-W-Anime-Visual

Dimension W is a Japanese manga series written by Yuji Iwahara and published in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine since 2011. The series is licensed in North America by Yen Press. An anime television series is scheduled to air in January 2016.

Dimension W synopsis from Haruhichan:

In the year 2072, the world’s energy problems seem solved by a network of cross-dimensional electric-field inductors—”coils”—that extract energy from a seemingly infinite source. That source is the W dimension, a fourth plane that exists beyond the X, Y, and Z dimensions.

In this world, unofficial “illegal” coils harness powers that the police can’t hope to counter. Dealing with these coils is the job of coil-hating repo man Kyoma, whose run-in with the unique coil android Mira leads the two to form a reluctant partnership.
