JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki. It was originally serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump from 1986 to 2004, before being transferred to the monthly seinen magazine Ultra Jump in 2005. The current story arc, JoJolion, started in 2011. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is currently Shueisha’s second largest manga series with its chapters collected into 111 tankobon volumes and counting (only Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo, with over 180, has more).

A six-volume original video animation adaptation of the later half of the series’ third story arc, Stardust Crusaders, was released from 1993 to 1994 by studio A.P.P.P. Six years later, they produced a seven-volume series adapting the arc’s first half from 2000 to 2002. A.P.P.P. also produced a theatrical film of the first arc, Phantom Blood, in 2007. From 2003 to 2005, Super Techno Arts released an English dub of both OVA series as one on DVD in North America. The third story arc of the manga received an English release in North America from 2005 to 2010 by Viz Media, who will also publish the first and second arcs in 2015. A 26-episode television anime, produced by David Production and covering the first two arcs, aired on Tokyo MX and other stations starting in October 2012 and ending in April 2013. A second season covering the third arc titled JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders began broadcast in April 2014 and ended with episode 24 on September 13, 2014.

The JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga has sold over 80 million copies in Japan alone, making it one of the best-selling manga series in history, and has spawned a large media franchise that includes several novelizations and video games, action figures, a jewelry line, and even snack foods.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (2012) synopsis from Haruhichan:

Beginning its tale in 19th century England, young aristocrat Jonathan Joestar finds himself locked in bitter rivalry with Dio Brando, a low-born boy who Jonathan’s father took under his wing after the death of Dio’s father. Discontent with his station in life, Dio’s fathomless lust to reign over all eventually leads him to seek the supernatural powers of an ancient Aztec stone mask in the Joestar’s possession—an artifact that will forever change the destiny of Dio and Jonathan for generations to come. Fifty years later, in 1938 New York City, Jonathan’s grandson Joseph Joestar must take up his grandfather’s mission and master the abilities necessary to destroy the stone mask and its immensely powerful creators who threaten humanity’s very existence, the Pillar Men.

No Second Season of Monster Musume Announced at Recent Event

7

Last weekend, the cast for the anime adaptation of Okayado’s Monster Musume (Everyday Life with Monster Girls) manga appeared at an Interspecies Exchange Party at Tokyo Metropolitan Hibiya Public Hall. Fans were expecting a second season to be announced since an Easter egg was found in the final episode of the series. Sadly, there was no announcement of a second season during the event.

No Second Season of Monster Musume Announced at Recent Event

Ari Ozawa (Papi) with the music production team

Sakura Nakamura (Rachnee)

Yuu Kobayashi (Smith) with Yurika Kubo (Tio)

Kobayashi with Rei Mochizuki (Zombina) and : Saori Oonishi (Doppel)

Kobayashi with Ozawa, Nakamura, Haruka Yamazaki (Mero), and Natsuki Aikawa (Ceraa)

Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou, usually translated as “Everyday Life with Monster Girls” but also as “Daily Life with a Monster Girl” or “Everyday Monster Girls“, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Okayado. The manga first began as a series of hentai one-shots. An anime adaption has been announced to Air in July 2015.

Monster Musume is currently published in Japan by Tokuma Shoten in their Monthly Comic Ryu magazine and by Seven Seas Entertainment in the United States, with the chapters collected and reprinted into—so far—6 tankobon volumes. The story revolves around Kimihito Kurusu, often referred to as “Darling” among various other things, a Japanese student whose life is totally thrown into turmoil after becoming involved with the “Interspecies Cultural Exchange” program by mistake.

Monster Musume synopsis from Haruhichan:

Monsters—they’re real, and they want to date us! Three years ago, the world learned that harpies, centaurs, catgirls, and all manners of fabulous creatures are not merely fiction; they are flesh and blood—not to mention scale, feather, horn, and fang. Thanks to the “Cultural Exchange Between Species Act,” these once-mythical creatures have assimilated into society, or at least, they’re trying.

When a hapless human named Kurusu Kimihito is inducted as a “volunteer” into the government exchange program, his world is turned upside down. A snake-like lamia named Miia comes to live with him, and it is Kurusu’s job to take care of her and make sure she integrates into his everyday life. Unfortunately for Kurusu, Miia is undeniably sexy, and the law against interspecies breeding is very strict. Even worse, when a ravishing centaur girl and a flirtatious harpy move in, what’s a full-blooded young man with raging hormones to do?!

Valkyria: Azure Revolution, Chronicles Remaster Heading to PS4

2

Famitsu has announced that Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles series will be making a return on the PlayStation 4 with a remaster of the original Valkyria Chronicles and a brand new game in the franchise titled Valkyria: Azure Revolution.

Valkyria-Azure-Chronicles-Famitsu-8 Valkyria-Azure-Chronicles-Famitsu-9

The remaster of the first Valkyria Chronicles – previously released on the PlayStation 3 in 2008 – will feature higher-resolution graphics, trophy support, and DLC and will release, in Japan, on Feb. 10, 2016 for 4,990 yen. Notably, Sega has confirmed that a demo of Valkyria: Azure Revolution will come with release copies of the remaster and will be taking feedback for the final release.

While Valkyria: Azure Revolution won’t be due out until winter 2016, there’s a surprising amount of information to get excited about. The title will be developed by Media Vision (Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth) and character designs will not be done by long-time series illustrator, Honjou Raita, but by Hiro Kiyohara (Another manga) and Takayama Toshiaki. Additionally, Flight Unit (Atelier series, Shining Resonance) will be working on character models, bringing along their trademark experience for flair and cel-shaded glory.

A prologue for Valkyria: Azure Revolution has also been provided, shedding light on new protagonists Amleth, Ophelia, and Byrnhildr.

Prologue

With the discovery of the azure mineral Ragnite, the powerful Rus Empire achieved rapid industrial development and expanded its territory. Jutland, a small country, is econmically blockaded by the large country, and advocating “independence and freedom from colonial rule,” strikes the empire army’s base.

Characters

Amleth – The protagonist. The commanding officer of the Jutland Kingdom’s elite Anti-Valkyria Unit.
Ophelia – The heroine. The princess of the Jutland Kingdom.
Brynhildr – A Valkyria sided with the Rus Empire that stands before the heroes.

According to an interview with director Takeshi Ozawa and chief producer Youichi Simosato, these aren’t the only changes being made to the Valkyria Chronicles formula. “We wanted to do something new using Valkyria, and one of the things we’re putting in is a real time system,” said Ozawa. Adding to that statement, Ozawa established that they were considering real-time strategy for the new title, but decided on RPG in the long run.

Regarding combat…

Ozawa: “There are symbol encounters, but symbols are shown as a unit, and you can interact with a symbol before the encounter. You can snipe an enemy symbol, use a smokescreen to disable it, or shoot at it with a rifle to lure the enemy. Sniping is powerful, but on the battlefield it functions like an usable item so there are limits how often it can be used.

“Battles are conducted by setting commands to buttons. They’re action-ish battles. It takes on the familiar form of recent RPGs. The maximum amount of party members is five. You control one of them, and the rest move based on a set thought process.”

Shimosato: “As there are beings that transform into tanks, there are also weapons that imitate living things.”

This new battle system will be dubbed “LeGION” and will feature a real-time battle system with “added simulation elements,” according to Ozawa. Furthermore, the tried-and-true CANVAS engine – which has been used for both Valkyria Chronicles and its sequel, Valkyria Chronicles II – is also being replaced with the “Gouache” Drawing Engine. Despite this change, it seems as if the new engine will still provide the painting-like visual pop that the Valkyria series has been acclaimed for.

Shimosato added, at the end of the interview, that the team working on Valkyria: Azure Revolution will be commissioning music “from a famous name,” though they couldn’t announce anything yet. Ozawa ended the interview with a message to fans, saying:

Ozawa: “There are parts similar to Valkyria Chronicles, but because it’s largely different on the surface in a good way, we want you to enjoy this game with flat eyes as a new series.”

GANTZ to Receive 3DCG Anime Film in 2016

3

The cover of the December issue of Miracle Jump magazine is revealing on November 17th, that GANTZ, a highly acclaimed science-fiction manga written by Hiroya Oku, is inspiring a fully fledged 3DCG anime film in 2016.

GANTZ to Receive 3DCG Anime Film in 2016

There are no news yet as to whether or not the film will only cover a few arcs like the anime, however, if this film does well, and garners enough attention for the manga and anime, perhaps it will inspire businessmen to put money into reviving the anime, and will lead to the animation of the entire manga.

Manga visual:

gantz manga

Gantz synopsis from MAL:

Thought your life was bad? Sometimes, death is worse. There is no salvation, peace, nor god waiting to receive you into their care. But wait, a god? Maybe you are talking about that big black ball stuck in the room with you. Now you are thrown into a game, fighting green aliens and robot monsters for the chance to survive.

When Kei Kurono is killed, he thus finds himself caught in such a game—a test of his skills, morals, and will to survive. His life is not his own; his death is spat and trampled upon over and over again. What happens if he does not listen? God knows.

A word of warning: Gantz is not for the faint-hearted, but neither is it as simple as it looks. Gore, rape, and violence is rampant, as are portrayals of greed, violence, and all the ugliness that one sees in society today.

Gantz is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiroya Oku. Gantz tells the story of Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato, both whom died in a train accident and become part of a semi-posthumous “game” in which they and several other recently deceased people are forced to hunt down and kill aliens armed with a handful of futuristic items, equipment, and weaponry. Both the manga and anime are noted for their heavy violence and sexual content.

The Gantz anime adaptation, directed by Ichiro Itano and animated by Gonzo, contains 26 episodes divided into two seasons. A series of two live action movies based on the manga were produced and released in January–April 2011.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Meets Sega in Odd Spin-off Title

1

Compile’s Heart official YouTube channel has streamed the debut trailer for their next spin-off title in the Hyperdimension Neptunia JRPG series, dubbed Hyperdimension Neptunia VS Sega Hard Girls: Dream Fusion Special.

Among plenty of already established characters in the long line of games, like IF-chan (Idea Factory) and Neptune, comes an armada of personification bliss with Sega Hatsumi (Sega, in general) and other representations of such classic consoles such as the Sega Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast. Even Sega’s first shot at the handheld gaming landscape, the Game Gear, will make an appearance.

The story will feature both IF-chan and Sega Hatsumi transporting themselves in the past to a more Sega-influenced time, to “recover lost history,” almost paying homage to the company that once gave Nintendo a run for their money.

As of November 2015, the – now, gargantuan – Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise has received an astounding twelve titles which include four main titles, five spin-offs, and three remakes of the original first three games for the PlayStation Vita and PC. It’s cheeky brand of taking the piss out of the game development ecosystem has blasted off, developing a fanbase passionate enough to also garner the franchise an anime adaptation in July 2013.

Hyperdimension Neptunia VS Sega Hard Girls: Dream Fusion Special will release in Japan on November 26th, exclusively for the PlayStation Vita. In case you’re itching for more information, visit the official Sega Hard Girls site and feel free to check out the opening, while you’re at it:

Thanks to Mods, Tales of Zestiria Can Now Run at 60fps

3

It’s only been less than a month since Tales of Zestiria was released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 20th. Additionally, it wasn’t too long ago that Bandai Namco made a statement in regards to what PC enthusiasts could do to enhance their succulent JRPG experience such as 4K support, a wider draw distance, and scaling the anti-aliasing to add even more detail.

Needless to say, it’d take a beast of a desktop to handle 4K resolutions which caused hardcore PC gamers to become baffled that the game wouldn’t support 60fps. According to Bandai Namco, they decided to lock the frame-rate due to how the increase in frames affected elements such as animations and the flow of battles. It’s understandable for Bandai Namco to be worried when Koei Tecmo’s PC release of Toukiden Kiwami was flagged with criticism after discovering that unlocking 60fps caused the game to double in speed. (Thanks, TotalBiscuit.)

Thanks to modder DrDaxxy, Bandai Namco might have to eat their words with a mod for Tales of Zestiria, allowing users to access a 60fps option without affecting battles or animations. Despite being in its very early stages, DrDaxxy posted a video to demonstrate what his hard work can truly show off and it looks stellar.

For more information, including an installation guide and patch notes, Kaldaien, who previously worked on the tweak tool for Batman: Arkham Asylum‘s PC release, has graciously provided an extensive log for you to peruse.

There are currently 9 light novel volumes. The first volume was released on November 19, 2011 and the 9th volume was shipped on January 20, 2015. A drama CD was included on the 5th light novel volume of the series.

Here is a synopsis of the series from MAL:

In a hidden school surrounded by mountains, young ladies of good families are taught everything a high class lady needs to know. They are also completely cut off from the outside world, keeping them sheltered and innocent. However, a problem has come up recently– more and more graduates are failing to cope with the modern world after graduation. To deal with this problem, they’ve decided to kidnap a male commoner student, and enroll him as a student. They hope that this will be a gentle way to introduce the girls to the outside world.

Kagurazaka Kimito is chosen for this dubious honor, mostly because he seems utterly average. However, the school leaders also seem to have concluded he’s a homosexual with a muscle fetish. When Kimito hears that the alternative may be castration (to protect the girls’ purity), he eagerly plays along with this misconception. Now he’ll just have to survive the attention of many high class young ladies that are completely out of touch with the world!

A film and TV anime were released alongside each other in 1999, the movie being a 20 minute anime produced by Mamoru Hosoda (Wolf ChildrenThe Girl Who Leapt Through Time).
