New Strike Witches Anime Focuses on the Brave Witches

The official website for the Strike Witches franchise began streaming a promotional video of an upcoming Brave Witches TV anime on Monday. The series is scheduled for broadcast in 2016, and more information regarding the series will be revealed on April 1.

After the last theatrical screening of the third OVA of Strike Witches: Operation Victory Arrow, it was revealed that a third season of Strike Witches is now in production which will focus on the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing, who are known as the Brave Witches.

The third OVA of the series, Strike Witches: Operation Victory Arrow Vol. 3 – Arnhem no Hashi, released in Japanese theatres on May 2nd. The first two seasons and OVAs follows the 501st Joint Fighter Wing who are known as the Strike Witches. The new series will feature the 502nd Joint Fighter Wing, the Brave Witches, who are based in St. Petersburg and Orussia and has 8 members:

Strike Witches is a media project that started in 2005 based off of Humikane Shimada’s illustrations. The first project was a manga from Yoshiyuki Kazumi, but was cancelled after one volume. A light novel series from Noboru Yamaguchi released the following year in Kadokawa Shoten’s Sneaker Bunko imprint for a total of 3 volumes. This was followed by an OVA and anime adaptation from Gonzo (Welcome to the N.H.K.) in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Since then, many more manga and light novel adaptations were released, as well as the anime’s second season and an animated film, all animated by AIC (Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari).

Here is a synopsis of Strike Witches from Haruhichan:

The year is 1944 and the world lives in fear of unidentified flying objects called Neuroi. With the old-boy old guard unable to thwart this deadly menace, humanity turns its desperate eyes to an aerial attack force with much nicer legs. Meet the girls of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, better known as the Strike Witches. These darlings of the great blue yonder may not have standard issue uniforms, but they do have all the right stuff. Where the average flyboy falters, these dolls blast aliens to bits in the bat of an eyelash. With a little magic and a whole lot of leg, the girls of the 501st are winning the war on pants, and aliens!

A brand new TV season of Strike Witches is currently in production and will focus on the Brave Witches.

Sailor Moon’s First Official Fan Club Opening next Month

The first official fan club for Naoko Takeuchi’s Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon series, dubbed “Pretty Guardians,” will begin accepting registrations for members on March 15. The 20th anniversary project site for the Sailor Moon franchise announced on February 28.

The membership includes: a membership card using the image from the past Nakayosi magazine, a member-limited makeup gloss, advance sales of the tickets for the Sailor Moon musical, newsletters, member-only merchandise, and member-only contents of its official app. More information about the membership fees will be released later.

Commemorating the launch of this fan club, a member-only event will be held at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium at 15:00 on April 10. The Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon voice actress Kotono Mitsuishi, Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Kamen voice actor (in Sailor Moon Crystal) Kenji Nojima, astute singer Mitsuko Horie, and the Sailor Moon Crystal theme song artist Momoiro Clover Z are scheduled to attend. To participate in this event you must register for the fan club by March 31.

Japanese Idol Group NGT48 Cast in Higurashi When They Cry Live Action TV Drama

Earlier in January it was announced that members from Niigata-based idol group NGT48 would be starring in the upcoming live-action TV drama based on the Higurashi When They Cry (Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni) sound novel series. After an arduous audition process the cast has finally been determined.

The cast is as follows:

Reina Seiji as Satoko Houjou

These girls look innocent, but we suspect that will change.

The live-action TV drama will be directed by Toru Otsuka and Taro Miyaoka with series composition by Toru Hasegawa. The series will are on BS SKY satellite channel every Friday at 9PM JST beginning in May 2016. The show’s producers stated that they hope to achieve “an extreme horror experience unlike anything on terrestrial television” with Higurashi When They Cry. Fans of the series will be pleased to hear that, as we all know that Higurashi is very much a dark mysterious horror, and we would love to see that in gruesome detail in live action.

Flying Witch is a Japanese manga series by Chihiro Ishizuka. It has been serialized since September 2012 in Kodansha’s shounen manga magazine Bessatsu Shounen Magazine and collected in three tankobon volumes. The manga was first published as a one-shot on July 9, 2010 in the same magazine. An anime television series adaptation has been announced for April 2016.

HaiFuri TV Anime Slated for April 9

The official website of the upcoming original anime HaiFuri has revealed that the TV series will begin its debut on the midnight of April 9th/10th. The HaiFuri anime will air its first episode on BS11, Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV and Gunma TV this April on the midnight JST of the 9th (Saturday)/10th (Sunday). The anime will also air on KBS Kyoto on the 12th/13th at midnight, and on Sun TV on the 13th at 12:30am JST.

In addition, the website has also revealed the main theme songs of the series. The Opening theme will be “High Free Spirits” sung by the trio TrySail and the Ending theme will be “Ripple Effect” by Luna Haruna.

Haifuri is an upcoming Japanese anime television series produced by Production IMS. Yuu Nobuta is directing the anime and Reiko Yoshida is handling series composition, with character designs by Naoto Nakamura and original character designs by Atto. It will begin airing in April 2016.

A manga adaptation will be serialized in Media Factory’s seinen manga magazine Monthly Comic Alive.

With Japan having developed as a maritime nation, it became necessary to have specialized schools to teach skills essential to protecting the sea. The setting is one such all-girls school. The girls who enroll here study to become “blue mermaids,” through classroom instruction and teaching of practical skills.

“Blue mermaids” are women who pursue the ocean for their professional occupation. They live by the motto “In the sea we live, the sea we protect, and by the sea we go.” They must excel in their studies, but must also adopt an international mindset. They are the “Elite of the Sea,” and are expected to be knowledgeable of the customs and cultures of other countries as well as their own.

Assassination Classroom to Receive TV Anime Shorts

Japanese streaming service Docomo dTV announced that it will stream the Assassination Classroom television anime series’ unaired “Extracurricular Lesson” episodes. The unaired content will have four episodes with each episode being five minutes long, which will will adapt chapters 78 (“Takebayashi no Jikan”) and 79 (“Shihaisha no Jikan, Ni Jikanme”). The first episode will premiere on March 11.

The Anime Japan 2016 website listed that the anime’s second season would have 25 episodes. The website for the second season lists that the series will have eight home video releases.

Assassination Classroom is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yusei Matsui. The series began serialization Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from July 2012 and is licensed in English by Viz Media. The series follows the daily lives of an extremely powerful octopus-like teacher and his students dedicated to the task of assassinating him to prevent Earth from being destroyed. As of March 2015, thirteen tankobon volumes have been released in Japan with a circulation of ten million copies.

A single original video animation adaptation by Brain’s Base based on the series was screened at the Jump Super Anime Tour on October to November 2013. This was followed by a television anime adaptation by Lerche, which began airing on Fuji TV in January 2015. This adaptation has been licensed by Funimation for release in North America. The series was obtained by Madman Entertainment for digital distribution in Australia and New Zealand. A live action film adaptation was released on March 21, 2015.

20th Detective Conan Film Trailer Streamed

The official website for the 20th Detective Conan anime film, Detective Conan: Junkoku no Nightmare (Detective Conan: Pitch Black Nightmare), revealed a new trailer for the film on Thursday. The trailer reveals that rock band B’z will perform the film’s theme song “Sekai wa Anata no Iro ni Naru.” The video also previews the song.

The song will be the fifth song that B’z is providing for a Detective Conan film, and the first one in five years since the band provided the “Don’t Wanna Lie” song to the Detective Conan: Quarter of Silence film in 2011. B’z also provided the “Q&A” song for the Detective Conan television anime in 2013 as an opening theme.

The website also revealed the synopsis of the movie:

On a dark night, the Japanese police is raided by a spy. Different countries’ intelligence agencies—such as England’s MI6, Germany’s BDN, and America’s CIA—as well as the FBI’s secret files are going to be taken, but public safety officers lead by Tooru Amuro arrive just in time. The spy steals a car and escapes. The spy and Amuro are then locked in a dead heat on the highway, and just as it is about to cause an accident with multiple cars, the spy’s car is hit by FBI agent Shuichi Akai’s rifle bullet and falls of the roadway.

The next day, Conan and his friends go to a newly-remodeled aquarium in Tokyo. Under the main attraction, a Ferris wheel, Conan finds an attractive woman alone and injured. Her left and right eyes are different colors.

But the woman is in a state of amnesia where she doesn’t even remember her own name, and the cellphone she’s carrying is broken. Conan and his friends promise to help her regain her memory, so they stay with her.

Throughout all this, Vermouth is watching behind the scenes. Afterwards, she pulls out a silencer and speaks into an attached intercom, “It’s as planned, Gin.”

The movie will debut on April 16 in Japan in various theaters. It will feature members of the story’s Black Organization that have previously appeared in the series: Gin, Vodka, Vermouth, Chianti, Korn, Kir, and Bourbon. The website also hints at the appearance of Rum, who has never been shown in the series.

4th and 5th Season of Symphogear Anime Confirmed and Game in Production

The official website for the Senki Zesshou Symphogear franchise confirmed on Sunday that production on both a fourth television anime season and a fifth television anime season has been green-lit. The announcement was made at the Sunday session for this weekend’s Symphogear Live 2016 event.

The art setting designer for the Senki Zesshou Symphogear franchise and many other works from the studio Satelight (AKB0048, Basquash!, Nobunaga the Fool), Thomas Romain, had previously said in November that “Symphogear will come back again!”

The website also revealed that the a smartphone game is also in development.

Symphogear, also known as Senki Zesshou Symphogear, is a Japanese anime television series produced by Encourage Films, with production assistance from Satelight, which aired on Tokyo MX between January 6, 2012 and March 30, 2012. A second season entitled Senki Zesshou Symphogear G aired between July 4, 2013 and September 26, 2013, while a third season, Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX, began airing from July 3, 2015. A fourth and fifth season has been announced.

Two years ago, a pair of idols, Tsubasa Kazanari and Kanade Amou, collectively known as ZweiWing, fought against an alien race known as Noise using armor known as Symphogear. Two years later, as Tsubasa has fought the Noise alone, Hibiki ends up gaining the same power as Kanade.

Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia) is an action adventure manga series written and illustrated by Kouhei Horikoshi. Shokugeki no Souma Season 2 Slated for Summer

The official Twitter account of the anime adaptation of Yuuto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki’s Shokugeki no Souma (Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma) manga has announced that the series’ second season will air this Summer.

The anime’s second season was previously announced in a recent issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The newest chapter of the series includes special colored pages to celebrate the anniversary. In addition, the issue also revealed that an OVA of the series that was shown at an event, focusing on the Aldini brothers, will be bundled with the manga’s 18th volume. Volume 18 of Shokugeki no Souma will release in Japan on May 2nd.

Shokugeki no Souma (Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma) is a comedy, ecchi cooking manga written by Yuuto Tsukuda, illustrated by Shun Saeki with Chef Yuki Mirosaki adding recipes to the manga. The series began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in late 2012 and to date has a total of 9 compiled volumes released, with the 10th volume releasing in Japan on November 4th. A light novel adaptation of the manga began in February this year in Shueisha’s Jump j-Books, written by Michiko Itou and illustrated by Saeki himself. The manga itself has sold over 2 million copies to date.

Yukihira Souma’s dream is to become a full-time chef in his father’s restaurant and surpass his father’s culinary skill. But just as Yukihira graduates from middle schools his father, Yukihira Jouichirou, closes down the restaurant to cook in Europe. Although downtrodden, Souma’s fighting spirit is rekindled by a challenge from Jouichirou which is to survive in an elite culinary school where only 10% of the students graduate. Can Souma survive?

Pan De Peace! TV Anime Slated for April 3

The official website for the upcoming television anime adaptation of emily’s Pan de Peace! (Peace Through Bread!) manga revealed the cast and staff on Saturday. The series will begin airing on April 3 at 8:55 p.m. on Animax and on April 5 at 1:00 a.m. on Tokyo MX.

The cast consist of:

Ibuki Kido (Claire Rouge from Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance) will voice Minami Tani
Erii Yamazaki (Roboko Tsujii from Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda) as Yuu Aizawa
Moe Toyota (Sapphire Kawashima from Hibike! Euphonium) as Fuyumi Fukagawa

Pan de Peace! is a Japanese four-panel manga series by Emily. It is serialized in Kadokawa Corporation / Media Factory’s manga magazine Comic Cune. An anime television seies adaptation by Asahi Production is scheduled to air from April 2016.

Pokémon Sun and Moon Arrive in Late 2016 Announcement Trailer

The official Pokémon channel began streaming an announcement video for the next two titles in the Pokémon franchise: Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon which were revealed during the 20th Anniversary Pokémon Direct on Friday.

Not much information has been revealed for the two games, other than that they will be launching this Holiday Season (Late 2016) Worldwide on the Nintendo 3DS. Another new addition, is that the game will now support 9 languages, with the inclusion of Chinese Simplified and Traditional.

No information whether the games will be set in a new generation or in the 6th generation (X, Y, Omega Ruby,Alpha Sapphire) has been revealed. The Pokémon Bank functionality will work with the new titles and will work with the recent Virtual Console release of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue.

The official website for the upcoming anime adaptation of Akira Hiyoshimaru’s Hatsukoi Monster (First Love Monster) manga has revealed that it will premiere this July. The anime announcement was first revealed in the April issue of Kodansha’s ARIA magazine.

Hatsukoi Monster is a Japanese shoujo manga series written by Akira Hiyoshimaru and published in Kodansha’s Aria magazine. A television anime adaptation has been announced to air in July 2016.

Hatsukoi Monster synopsis from MAL:

Nikaido Kaho is a daughter of a rich family and her whole life everyone’s been nice to her. When moving to her new high school dormitory, she almost gets hit by a truck but is saved by a boy. It’s love at first sight for Kaho but when asking him his name, he tells her she’s weird. Kaho is shocked since it’s the first time anyone’s ever said mean things to her. Soon enough, she finds out that the boy who saved her lives in the same dormitory and so she bravely confesses her love. The boy says his name is Kanade and agrees to go out with her. Unfortunately, the following day Kaho finds out that her first boyfriend is a 5th grader.

4th Season of Senki Zesshou Symphogear Anime Green-Lit

An announcement for a fourth season of the Senki Zesshou Symphogear franchise has been revealed during the ymphogearLive 2016 event at Tokyo’s Nippon Budookan venue on Saturday.

The art setting designer for the Senki Zesshou Symphogear franchise and many other works from the studio Satelight (AKB0048, Basquash!, Nobunaga the Fool), Thomas Romain, had previously said in November that “Symphogear will come back again!”

Symphogear, also known as Senki Zesshou Symphogear, is a Japanese anime television series produced by Encourage Films, with production assistance from Satelight, which aired on Tokyo MX between January 6, 2012 and March 30, 2012. A second season entitled Senki Zesshou Symphogear G aired between July 4, 2013 and September 26, 2013, while a third season, Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX, began airing from July 3, 2015. A fourth season has been announced.

Senki Zesshou Symphogear synopsis from Haruhichan:

Two years ago, a pair of idols, Tsubasa Kazanari and Kanade Amou, collectively known as ZweiWing, fought against an alien race known as Noise using armor known as Symphogear. To protect a girl named Hibiki Tachibana, who got severely wounded by the Noise, Kanade sacrificed herself. Two years later, as Tsubasa has fought the Noise alone, Hibiki ends up gaining the same power as Kanade.
