At This Japanese Bar, Drink and Play in a Ball Pit

1

As a kid I remember going to Chuck E. Cheese and jumping in their ball pit, swimming in the colorful array of plastic balls. Something about it was so appealing, and still is. A new bar called Ball Pool Bar Drive in Osaka has recreated that feeling for adults.

Earlier this year a pop-up ball pit bar opened in San Francisco for two days. However, this new ball pit bar in Osaka will be here to stay.

Dive doesn’t have tables or chairs, just a giant pit filled with over 20,000 colorful orbs for patrons to plunge into. There are all-you-can-drink rates for sixty to ninety minutes depending on the day, and the booze is served with lids so people don’t spill them in the ball pit.

New Gintama Series Slated for April 2015 haruhichan.com Gintama new season

Gintama, is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi and serialized, beginning on December 8, 2003, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. Set in Edo which has been conquered by aliens named Amanto, the plot follows life from the point of view of samurai Gintoki Sakata, who works as a freelancer alongside his friends Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura in order to pay the monthly rent. Sorachi added the science fiction setting to develop characters to his liking after his editor suggested doing a historical series.

The series has been adapted into an original video animation (OVA) by Sunrise and was featured at Jump Festa 2006 Anime Tour in 2005. This was followed by a full anime series titled Gintama that premiered in 2006 and continued until 2010. After a small hiatus, Gintama returned under the name Gintama (2011) and aired until March 26, 2012 with a total of 51 episodes. After another small hiatus, Gintama returned under the name Gintama’ Enchousen with a total of 13 episodes which aired from October 4, 2012 to March 28th, 2013. It also inspired two movies, Gintama: Shinyaku Benizakura-hen and Gintama: Kanketsu-hen – Yorozuya yo Eien Nare. Weekly Shonen Jump’s 33rd issue had teased that the manga is celebrating over a decade of serialization with “OOO” (an unrevealed term that can be spelled with three Japanese syllables).

In Japan, the Gintama manga has been popular, selling over 46 million copies. The anime and its DVDs have been featured, at various time, in Top Ten of their respective media, while TV Tokyo has announced that the firstGintamaanime was responsible for high sales overseas along with the anime adaptation from Naruto. Publications for manga, anime and others have commented on the Gintama manga. Positive response have focused on the comedy and characters from the series, while negative responses concern the manga’s artwork.

Gintama synopsis from Haruhichan:

Life isn’t easy in feudal Japan… especially since the aliens landed and conquered everything! Oh sure, the new health care is great, but the public ban on the use of swords has left a lot of defeated samurai with a difficult decision to make concerning their future career paths! This is especially true if, as in the case of Gintoki Sakata, they’re not particularly inclined towards holding a day job, which is why Gintoki’s opted for the freelance route, taking any job that’s offered to him as long as the financial remuneration sounds right. Unfortunately, in a brave new world filled with stray bug-eyed monsters, upwardly mobile Yakuza and overly ambitious E.T. entrepreneurs, those jobs usually don’t pay as well as they should for the pain, suffering and indignities endured!

A new TV anime adaptation of the Gintama manga is currently in production in Japan. Further information about the movie will be revealed at a later date.

top-10-anime-japanese-fans-dont-want-you-to-know-they-enjoy-5

It seems that Japanese fans are embarrassed of enjoying Love Live!, even though the idol series has a loyal and dedicated following who are definitely not shy expressing it. Then again, maybe it’s because of those rowdy fans that they don’t want to be associated with the anime.

While being caught watching an ecchi like To Love-Ru and Bakemonogatari is understandably embarrassing, many fans also find watching a classic such as Card Captor Sakura to be embarrassing.

Persona 5 the Animation: The Day Breakers Available Now on Crunchyroll

0

Atlus’ highly-anticipated addition to their celebrated RPG series Persona 5 is only short of two weeks from releasing in Japan — on September 15th. While it’s international release won’t be for another five months — on Valentine’s Day, to be exact — the prestigious developer/publisher is ramping up the excitement for its native release with Persona 5 the Animation: The Day Breakers.

Anime-streaming site Crunchyroll is jumping onto the hype train announcing that The Day Breakers will be simulcast on their website, starting on September 3rd, 2016, at 5:00am PT. Following episodes will be uploaded every Saturday, available first to all Premium members in North America, Central/South America, Australia/New Zealand, United Kingdom, and Ireland.

A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online, Magi: The Kingdom of Magic) will be handling the animation with Takaharu Ozaki (Terraformars assistant director) making his directorial debut. Persona 5 the Animation: The Day Breakers will serve as a prologue to the video game, establishing the connections between the main characters and the birth of the eclectic group known as the Phantom Thieves.

Here’s the description of Persona 5, courtesy of Amazon:

Persona 5 is a game about the internal and external conflicts of a group of troubled high school students – the protagonist and a collection of compatriots he meets in the game’s story – who live dual lives as Phantom Thieves. They have the typically ordinary day-to-day of a Tokyo high schooler – attending class, after school activities and part-time jobs. But they also undertake fantastical adventures by using otherworldly powers to enter the hearts of people. Their power comes from the Persona, the Jungian concept of the “self”. The game’s heroes realize that society forces people to wear masks to protect their inner vulnerabilities, and by literally ripping off their protective masks and confronting their inner selves do the heroes awaken their inner power, and use it to strive to help those in need. Ultimately, the group of Phantom Thieves seeks to change their day-to-day world to match their perception and see through the masks modern-day society wears.

The game is available to pre-order on Amazon both in a standard edition and — keeping with Atlus’ spectacular track record of amazing limited goodies — a premium “Take Your Heart” edition featuring a steelbook case, soundtrack CD, a 4″ Morgana plush, 64-page hardcover art book, and a Shujin Academy-themed school bag.

Steins;Gate Slated to Release on Steam on September 8th

2

Japanese visual novel computer software company Nitro+ and 5pb’s acclaimed visual novel Steins;Gate will be making its way to Steam on September 8th (9th in Japan).

SteinsGate-Steam-Announcement

The Steam release will be released in full 1080p HD visuals, the first for the series. The game will be published by 5pb. and their parent company Mages inc., and no information about whether this will be a re-release of JAST USA’s 2014 physical release of the game have been confirmed. Furthermore, the price and option to purchase the game have yet to be unveiled.

Here is the game’s introduction from the Steam page:

-Decide The Fate Of All Mankind-
CAN YOU CHANGE THE COURSE OF FATE?
AND SAVE THE ONES CLOSEST TO YOU?

STEINS;GATE is the award-winning time travel science-fiction interactive visual novel developed by 5pb. and Nitroplus.
It is widely considered to be one of the finest Visual Novels ever made.

STEINS;GATE follows a rag-tag band of tech-savvy young students who discover the means of changing the past via mail, using a modified microwave. Their experiments into how far they can go with their discovery begin to spiral out of control as they become entangled in a conspiracy surrounding SERN, the organisation behind the Large Hadron Collider, and John Titor who claims to be from a dystopian future.

Interaction with the game takes place through the “phone trigger” system, where the player can receive calls and text messages and decide whether to reply to them or not, changing the outcome of the game’s plot.

The Opening sequence to the game:

The game itself already released internationally on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita last year. The official sequel to the game,Steins;Gate 0, will be releasing on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita later this year.

Steins;Gate is part of the series of science adventure games, a collaboration between developers Nito+ and 5pb. The games play out similarly to modern visual novels but notably with the usage of the main character’s device casually known as a trigger. All games focus heavily on scientific methods and theories and are incorporated into the game. The first game in the series was Chaos;Head, which released in 2008 for the PC. The next game, Steins;Gate released in 2009 and finally followed by Robotics;Notes in 2012. Steins;Gate originally released on the Xbox 360 before being ported to the PC, and all current generations, at the time, of consoles in Japan. An anime adaptation of the game was produced in 2011 that was directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki (Terraformars, Blade & Soul) and Takuya Satou (Selector Infected Wixoss, Ichigo Mashimaro) and produced by White Fox (Katanagatari, Jormungand). A sequel film to the anime was produced in 2013 and featured an original story. A sequel light novel titled Steins;Gate The Committee of Antimatter was also produced this year.

Here is the synopsis of the Steins;Gate anime from MAL:

The eccentric mad scientist Okabe, his childhood friend Mayuri, and the otaku hacker Daru have banded together to form the “Future Gadget Research Laboratory,” and spend their days in a ramshackle laboratory hanging out and occasionally attempting to invent incredible futuristic gadgets. However, their claymore is a hydrator and their hair dryer flips breakers, and the only invention that’s even remotely interesting is their Phone Microwave, which transforms bananas into oozing green gel. But when an experiment goes awry, the gang discovers that the Phone Microwave can also send text messages to the past. And what’s more, the words they send can affect the flow of time and have unforeseen, far-reaching consequences—consequences that Okabe may not be able to handle…

The Steins;Gate visual novel will be coming out on Steam on September 8th (9th JST). You can visit the Steam page here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/412830/
