That was an investigation on the “Death Gun” incident that occurred in the gun and steel filled VRMMO called Gun Gale Online (GGO). “Players who are shot by a mysterious avatar with a jet black gun lose their lives even in the real world…” Failing to turn down Kikuoka’s bizarre request, Kirito logs in to GGO even though he is not completely convinced that the virtual world could physically affect the real world.

Kirito wanders in an unfamiliar world in order to gain any clues about the “Death Gun.” Then, a female sniper named Sinon who owns a gigantic “Hecate II” rifle extends Kirito a helping hand. With Sinon’s help, Kirito decides to enter the “Bullet of Bullets,” a large tournament to choose the most powerful gunner within the realm of GGO, in hopes to become the target of the “Death Gun” and make direct contact with the mysterious avatar.

Japanese Women Find Figurine Collecting Less Desirable than Bug and Underwear Collecting?

66

A recent survey on the female-centric Japanese website called My Navi Woman, has revealed that the Japanese women, that were involved in the survey, did not want their boyfriends to collect anime related merchandise — the goods ranged from the casual figurines to the hardcore collecting of women’s underwear.

If you didn’t know, Otaku culture is looked down upon in Japan, despite however it is portrayed in the West.

To make things slightly more devastating, the women involved in the survey even ranked which they deemed they liked the least.

  • 10. Anime related merchandise (3 votes)
  • 9. Otaku goods (3 votes)
  • 8. Hentai (6 votes)
  • 7. Insect collection (10 votes)
  • 6. Female underwear (13 votes)
  • 5. Idol related merchandise (15 votes)
  • 4. Idol related pictures and posters (17 votes)
  • 3. Anime figurines (23 votes)
  • 2. Bishoujo figurines (29 votes)
  • 1. Figurines (40 votes)

With a quick glance, it’s easy to spot some peculiar interests and hobbies. It’s rather simple to see why some of these partaking women find a few of these hobbies resistible but to see them ranked under figurine collecting is a complete surprise.

In a society where anime and manga are huge forms of entertainment, it isn’t a shock to see merchandise created after them. However, it’s surprising to see it being more of a turn-off than insect or female underwear collecting.

Insect Collection - Haruhichan.com

It’s also pretty surprising to see Idol Groups being disliked.

Baby Metal Japanese Idol Group - Haruhichan.com

Although it’s a pretty small sample size, so many questions. Oh Japan. So many questions, so many question indeed.

Pharrell Williams’ Newest Music Video Features His Anime Waifu

34

The world of anime is getting more and more popular, and now Grammy Award winner Pharrell Williams has released the music video for his latest single It Girl, which is 100% anime itself. The song itself seems to be about one of the various seemingly underage girls (lolis) from the video, where Williams also appears interacting with them. One of which may be his waifu (for which one he chooses is anyone’s guess).

The animation itself was done by veterans of the anime industry. It was produced by Takashi Murakami (a well known contemporary artist and founder of the Superflat art style), directed by Fantasista Utamaro (various anime music videos and colour designer on Hamatora The Animation) and animated by studio NAZ (Hamatora The Animation, DRAMAtical Murder).

So what do you think of the song and music video? How do you feel about how Williams portrayed anime in the video? Let us know in the comments below.

Sword Gai synopsis from MAL:

A woman died a suspicious death in the forest. Beside her, the sword-smith Amon finds a new-born boy with a tragic fate and takes him in. About 10 years later, this boy who is named Gai and who has become Amon’s apprentice, loses his right arm in an accident while making a sword. Amon decides to take a sword called “Shiryuu”, which is a sword with demonic powers that has been passed down for generations, and fashion it into an artificial arm for Gai. That was the beginning of it all…

The story of this boy, who has become one with a demonic weapon and is drawn into a cruel fate in which he must face countless battles, can be seen as either the story of “a beautiful weapon and an ugly person” or of “the cruelty of weapons and the beauty of humans”. This is a completely new world of comic noir.

Snack Reviews: September Japanese Snack Subscription from JList

1

Today, we’ll be taking a look at the September issue of JList’s Japanese Snack Subscription.

The card in the picture below reads:

September is the end of the harvest season in Japan, which is celebrated with the moon festival called Juugoya. It’s a time to enjoy nature, the night sky and make dango with friends and family. We’ve included some of these flavors in this month’s package, enjoy!

Iwata Watermelon CandyJlist.com-Haruhichan.com-September Japanese Snack Subscription from JList 01

This is a watermelon-flavoured hard boiled candy which does a great job delivering the watermelon taste. It reminds me of when you would freeze watermelon slices and eat them later. Highly recommended for watermelon fans.

Meiji Fruit Gummy 100% MelonJlist.com-Haruhichan.com-September Japanese Snack Subscription from JList 02

I’m a big fan of gummy candies and these clicked with me. As the name states, they taste exactly like a fresh slice of melon from the fridge.

Mintlet Natural Japanese MintsJlist.com-Haruhichan.com-September Japanese Snack Subscription from JList 07

These are Mintlets which come in a small, easy to carry case. The mints give an intense citrus burst belied by their small size.

Kobaya Jyuu-C Apple CandyJlist.com-Haruhichan.com-September Japanese Snack Subscription from JList 06

These are tablet shaped candies with a green apple flavour. Once opened, the aroma of an apple leaks out; the tablets aren’t too sweet, but you can taste a little bit of artificial flavouring. They come in a cute tube decorated by drawings reminiscent of Crayon Shin-chan.

Morinaga Ramune x Orange CandyJlist.com-Haruhichan.com-September Japanese Snack Subscription from JList 03

These little cubes are quite something. They look hard, but they’re actually really soft, with each cube giving you a nice, quick burst of orange soda.

Seika Traditional Japanese CaramelsJlist.com-Haruhichan.com-September Japanese Snack Subscription from JList 05

I’m not that big of a fan of traditional Japanese candies; these ones have a malt taste to them, just like the Uguisu Kinako Traditional Sweets I tried last June.

Bourbon Mochi Chestnuts and ChocolateJlist.com-Haruhichan.com-September Japanese Snack Subscription from JList 08

I’m a big fan of mochi; it’s a soft rice cake which is commonly eaten during the new years, and its elasticity makes it quite chewy.

Once opening a packet, you can instantly smell the chestnut. The mochi itself is very soft, with a chocolate cream filling surrounding a chestnut centre. I find that, generally, mochi can be hit or miss for people; you either love it, or you hate it.

Mango Flavored Ritz Mini CrackersJlist.com-Haruhichan.com-September Japanese Snack Subscription from JList 04

Ritz crackers are a fairly ubiquitous brand of snack crackers, somewhat dry and salty, yet irresistibly delicious. They can also be found in smaller, bite-sized snack sandwiches; fillings usually range among cheese, peanut butter, and S’mores, amongst others. Japan, in its usual fashion, has put its own twist on this foodstuff, including strawberry filling or more seasonal offerings like custard or Camembert pepper.

Today, I got to try the mango flavoured Ritz. I was quite overwhelmed by the taste: I expected the sweetness of the mango and the savoury cracker to clash, but to my amazement they worked together quite harmoniously!

Well, that wraps up the September Japanese Snack Subscription from JList. What candy from this post do you now want to try? And if you’ve tried Japanese snacks or candy before, which have you tried? Let us know in the comments below!

Additionally, the first preview for the film was shown on TV:

Psycho-Pass is an original animation from Production I.G. The Sci-fi, crime solving anime began airing from October 2012 and ended in March 2013. The series was directed by first timer Naoyoshi Shiotani, with the story being written by veteran Gen Urobuchi and the characters designed by Akira Amano. The series has received a manga and light novel adaptation, that began publishing in November 2012 and February 2013 respectively. Additionally, an Xbox One game based on the series is currently in development

Here is a synopsis of Psycho-Pass from Haruhichan:

The series takes place in the near future, when it is possible to instantaneously measure and quantify a person’s state of mind and personality. This information is recorded and processed, and the term “Psycho-Pass” refers to a standard used to measure an individual’s being. The story centers around the “enforcement officer” Shinya Kougami, who is tasked with managing crime in such a world.

In the future, it is possible to quantitatively measure a person’s emotions, desires, and every inclination. In this way, it is also possible to measure a person’s criminal tendency factor, which is used to judge criminals.

This is the story of a team of policemen dedicated to maintaining public order. Some of them work in the Enforcement Division, responsible for the apprehension of criminals, while others belong to the Supervisory Division which oversees their colleagues in Enforcement.
