Less then a week after more details of the newest addition to the The Idolmaster franchise, Platinum Stars, was released, general producer Akihiro Ishihara has issued that he has officially left Bandai Namco since January 31st. The announcement was displayed on The Idolmaster official blog, thanking fans of the franchise for all of their support since the series launch in 2005.
Ishihara stated that when he officially submitted his resignation, when an authoritative figure asked him why he was leaving, he stated that he was not leaving for a reason in particular. However, one of the major reasons behind his resignation was he wants to see his “Own ideal IP come to form” and grow. Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri (Gate: The Self-Defense Forces Fight Like This in Another Land)is a Japanese light novel series written by Takumi Yanai and originally illustrated by Daisuke Izuka. AlphaPolis published five volumes and three side-story collections from April 2010 to April 2014. AlphaPolis began publishing an expanded edition of the main series with illustrations by Kuroshishi in December 2012. A manga adaptation illustrated by Satoru Sao began in July 2011. An anime television series has been announced.
In August of 20XX, a portal to a parallel world, known as the “Gate,” suddenly appeared in Ginza, Tokyo. Monsters and troops poured out of the portal, turning the shopping district into a bloody inferno.
The Japan Ground-Self Defence Force immediately took action and pushed the fantasy creatures back to the “Gate.” To facilitate negotiations and prepare for future fights, the JGSDF dispatched the Third Reconnaissance Team to the “Special Region” at the other side of the Gate.
Youji Itami, a JSDF officer as well as a 33-year-old otaku, was appointed as the leader of the Team. Amid attacks from enemy troops the team visited a variety of places and learnt a lot about the local culture and geography.
Thanks to their efforts in humanitarian relief, although with some difficulties they were gradually able to reach out to the locals. They even had a cute elf, a sorceress and a demigoddess in their circle of new friends. On the other hand, the major powers outside the Gate such as the United States,China and Russia were extremely interested in the abundant resources available in the Special Region. They began to exert diplomatic pressure over Japan.
A suddenly appearing portal to an unknown world—to the major powers it may be no more than a mere asset for toppling the international order. But to our protagonists it is an invaluable opportunity to broaden knowledge, friendship, and ultimately their perspective towards the world.

Nurse Witch Komugi is an original video animation (OVA) anime series co-produced by Tatsunoko Production and Kyoto Animation. The series lasted for five episodes (six if episode 2.5 that appeared in the middle of the series is included), all of which were released on DVD in North America by ADV Films. A two episode long sequel OVA series was created, Nurse Witch Komugi-chan Magicarte Z.
The story of the anime itself is basically a parody of both the The SoulTaker anime series and the magical girl anime genre. It revolves around Komugi Nakahara, a cosplay idol who turns into Magical Nurse Witch Komugi when trouble is around.
While the English dub of the show was adapted by ADV, the original The SoulTaker dub was not. In a rare move, ADV recalled many of the voice actors from The Ocean Group dub of The SoulTaker to reprise their roles in Nurse Witch Komugi to keep consistency between the two dubs.
The new “slapstick” story will depict Komugi-chan and her rivals as they juggle their daily lives as students, idols, and magical girls “with laughter and tears.”
Komugi Yoshida is a somewhat clumsy second-year middle-school student whose strong point is her spiritedness. She performs as an idol like Kokona Saionji (her classmate and close friend) and Tsubasa Kisaragi (an idol who dresses in male clothing). However, unlike Kokona whose popularity is skyrocketing and Tsubasa with her charisma in male attire, Komugi’s only gigs are low-end ones like those at the local shopping district. Still, Komugi has her “dream” as she lives her dual lives as a idol and a middle school girl.
One day, a mysterious injured creature named Usa-P appears before Komugi. Komugi gives Usa-P medical treatment, and Usa-P, in consideration of Komugi’s kindness, asks if she wants to be a Legendary Girl who can use magical powers.
Having become a reluctant Legendary Girl, Komugi battles strange masked figures who suddenly appear! As a newly deemed Magical Nurse, she fights still more waves of masked figures. Meanwhile, a Magical Maid, a Magical Sister, and more also appear to make it a three-way battle!? Can Komugi handle the three roles of middle school girl, idol, and Magical Nurse? And, what lies ahead in these battles and her “dream”…?!

The series began in 2013 under SB Creative’s GA Bunko light novel imprint and has published a total of 6 volumes to date. Lux accidentally trespasses in a female dormitory’s bathing area, sees the kingdom’s new princess Lisesharte naked, and incurs her wrath. Lisesharte then challenges Lux to a Drag-Ride duel. Drag-Rides are ancient armored mechanical weapons that have been excavated from ruins all around the world. Lux used to be called the strongest Drag-Knight, but now he’s known as the “undefeated weakest” Drag-Knight because he will absolutely not attack in battle. After his duel with Lisesharte, Lux ends up attending the female-only academy that trains royals to be Drag-Knights.

Title (English): KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World!
Title (Japanese): この素晴らしい世界に祝福を!
Animation Studio: Studio Deen
Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Romance
Episodes: 3/?
Heaven or Hell? It’s quite a simple choice… isn’t it? Apparently Heaven is boring and Hell is Hell. What if instead, the other third choice, Purgatory, was a parallel world in which you are placed as a new adventurer in a game-like world to stop an evil Demon King? Now that sounds better! Welcome to Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (referred to as KonoSuba from now on), where the choice is exactly that!
On his way back home from the video game store, shut-in NEET, Kazuma Satou, notices a girl about to get hit by a vehicle and he pushes her out of the way. When he wakes up, he finds himself in limbo where a goddess, Aqua, tells him (in the most humiliating and hilarious way possible) that he is now dead and it’s her job to send him to Heaven or Hell. Aqua tells Kazuma that both are no fun and she recommends sending him to an alternate dimension where a fantasy game-like world exists. She tells him that he is allowed to bring one item/person into the world with him. After being annoyed by Aqua telling him to hurry up on his decision, Kazuma grudgingly says he wants her to accompany him. Another goddess says that his decision is valid, and so she sends him and Aqua into the other world. Aqua is now stuck with Kazuma, as he begins his adventure to defeat the Demon King.
KonoSuba earns points from me just for purely being enjoyable. Unlike other anime of its kind that try to be serious with its fantasy game-like settings, KonoSuba shows how much fun it is just to simply to play these kind of games. It’s the polar opposite to Hai to Gensou no Grimgar which is also airing this season. While the world itself is real, and I’m pretty sure death in this world is permanent, it has a rather light-hearted nature to it that makes you forget about that. All the ‘players’ are all technically dead anyway.
Another part of what makes this anime fun is sympathizing with Kazuma as he has to deal with his party members’ less than optimal combat abilities. Despite Kazuma being the lowest-class possible, and all of his teammates being advanced classes, he has to work the hardest to ensure his party’s survival since all of them are terrible at their jobs, at least in the traditional way. Clearly, none of his teammates have ever played an RPG before and they don’t have much common/game sense, which only makes their antics all the funnier. All gamers can relate to this feeling of having teammates that weren’t up to snuff. I hope this kind of thing continues, because it’s gold right now.
*sigh* I know the feeling of having to rescue teammates all too well.
While the world itself looks nice, the character designs aren’t the best. There’s some inconsistencies in their facial structure in some scenes that is a little off-putting. A close-up shot of a character one time may not necessarily be the same the next time, even if their facial expression is the same. The animation is half-decent but nothing special as of right now. Considering how much I like the rest of the anime, I wish the art and animation part were better.
KonoSuba brings in a mixture of veteran and rookie voice actors. For me, it’s been quite a while since I last heard Sora Amamiya voice a character. The last time I heard her, she made her debut as Kaori Fujimiya from Isshukan Friends. Since then, she went on to become one of the best rookie voice actresses from last year. Now she returns as an experienced voice actress doing Aqua. Ai Kayano is the other veteran voice actress doing Darkness. Kazuma is voiced by Jun Fukushima (not to be confused with Jun Fukuyama, one of the industry’s most well-known), and Megumin is voiced by Rie Takahashi. Both are relatively new, but are doing their roles well.
I’ve said this before, but KonoSuba is a ton of fun. I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed an anime like this in a long time. I now anxiously await each episode every week not because of story, not because the previous episode ended on a cliffhanger, but simply because I want to spend more time in this world with this wacky set of characters. The comedy is pretty good for those familiar with games, but can still be enjoyed by someone unfamiliar with gaming terms. This, to me, is one of this season’s sleeper hits, in a season overshadowed by one particular show… which I’m sure we all know about. Even if you’re tired of all of these fantasy-game anime, I would still recommend giving KonoSuba a shot just for an old-fashioned good time.
Anyone watching this, or is now considering giving this a shot? Let me know in the comments!

Those of us who are horror fanatics (like myself) always search for that one thing that will keep us up at night checking under the bed and in the closet to see if there are any abnormal entities lying in wait planning our demise. Most, if not all, of us should be familiar with the name Junji Ito, the famous horror master stationed in Japan. His works are vastly popular among the thriller-loving crowd. Such titles as Uzumaki, Gyo, and Tomie are only a few of his successful works.
These images are startling. They get your skin to crawl and the hairs on the back of your necks to stand on end…but what if they were real?
This talented woman does just that, by cosplaying the truly gruesome and woeful characters of Junji Ito’s creations, bringing nightmares to life.
Note that you can also expect a live-action Chinese adaptation of his horror manga short stories. Just a few you can except are Soichi no Katte na Noroi, Kassohei no Iru Ie, Rojiura, and Umeku Haisuikan, as well as Ito’s Shibito no Koiwazurai manga. The characters, settings, and scenarios will be altered to fit the Chinese culture and style, but we are still excited to stay up all night watching these striking stories unveil. You can expect to see the adaptation premiere this year on iQIYI Chinese streaming video service.
Viz Media previously published Ito’s Uzumaki manga, which inspired a live-action film. Viz Media also published Ito’s Gyo manga, which inspired an OVA. ComicsOne published Ito’s Tomie, which also inspired live-action films.

Gochuumon wa Usagi Desu ka?, also known in short form as GochiUsa, is a Japanese 4-panel comedy manga series by Koi, serialized in Houbunsha’s seinen manga magazine Manga Time Kirara Max since March 2011. It has been collected in three tankobon volumes as of March 2014. An anime television series adaptation by White Fox aired in Japan between April and June 2014. The second season is currently airing.
Synopsis of GochiUsa‘s first season from Haruhichan:
Cocoa arrives at the cafe Rabbit House one day, excited for rabbits. She actually all but lives in that cafe. She meets lots of different girls there, including a tiny and cool girl named Chino, a tough and soldier-esque girl named Rize, a spacey and quintessentially Japanese girl named Chiyo, and the ordinary but dignified Sharo.
Learning about another country can be pretty interesting, especially if the culture of the country is entirely different from your own. People can have so many different ways of thinking about one particular topic from the most important of laws, to the simplest ways to live every day life. Food can change from one region to another, and how one country uses a particular ingredient can be entirely different from how another country uses it. In Japan’s case, you have snacks like raspberry-flavoured Kit-Kats, and ramen-flavoured chips. Japanese snacks are at the core of Dagashi Kashi, a show about Japanese candy, and a couple of teens in the candy business.
Dagashi means “cheap candy” in Japanese, and the anime follows Kokonotsu Shikada (called Coconuts by his friend Saya), an aspiring manga artist living with his dad, who owns a small candy shop in a rural Japanese town. His dad wants him to take over the candy shop when he gets older, but Kokonotsu wants nothing to do with the store. His family has owned the small store for generations, so his father wants the store to carry on. One day, the store gets a visit from Hotaru Shidare, the daughter of a major candy manufacturer. She has come to learn more about selling candy from Kokonotsu’s dad, who is famous for his eccentric attitude and sales. She wants Kokonotsu’s dad to join her in her dad’s company, but Kokonotsu’s dad will only do it if Kokonotsu takes over the store. Hotaru makes it her mission to convince Kokonotsu to give up on his manga artist dream and run the candy store instead.
I started Dagashi Kashi a little late; I only started watching it around the end of last week. By the time I started watching it, there was already a bit of excitement about it in some of the anime communities I follow, so I went into it with higher than normal expectations. Unfortunately, it hasn’t met those expectations. That’s not to say I’m not having fun watching it however. If anything, the anime gives insight into the candy business of Japan, or at least when it comes to dagashi.
One of the most fun things about the anime is Hotaru. It’s interesting to see someone so into something as simple as candy, how passionate she is about the entire art of making it, and its history. She’s the example of showing how someone can have an interest in anything, and be incredibly knowledgeable about it. She makes a good part of this show enjoyable due to her eccentric nature, and she stands out among some of the other characters. The other characters aren’t exactly charismatic, as they’re mostly the stereotypes we see in anime a lot. Personally, I feel nothing for the characters except for Hotaru at the moment.
The placebo effect is a powerful thing.
The art style is taking me a bit of time to get used to. It’s a bit odd for me to see big eyeballs, but small pupils. It may just be me watching too much moe. Other than the eyes, everything else looks good. The rural Japanese town setting is a nice change from the cities. The animation as of right now is nothing special, but it’s not bad either. It does its job for a simple anime like this.
Ayana Taketatsu is a voice actress I would like to hear more often. Unfortunately, she doesn’t do these slice of life-like anime very often. The last anime role that she had that I had actually watched was Kantai Collection last winter season. So it’s a pleasure to hear her voicing Hotaru here. Atsushi Abe voices Kokonotsu and he’s been around the block more than a few times. Both the OP and ED don’t really do it for me. I could honestly skip them and not notice. I personally don’t find anything particularly interesting about the songs they use. The soundtrack of the anime itself is likewise subdued, but it’s understandable given the setting.
I don’t really have too much else to mention about Dagashi Kashi. Unless a story pops up later on, or the characters get more interesting and develop more, this could basically be my review. I’m not sure why this isn’t labelled as a slice of life as it basically is one at this point. Even then, I’ve seen better ones. I’m going to keep on it just to learn more about dagashi, and to see more of Hotaru’s antics. Those two things help make this anime fun, and hopefully it continues.
Thoughts on Dagashi Kashi anyone? Let’s see your opinion in the comments!
