Muv-Luv Trilogy Smashes Stretch Goals with $1.17 Million

3

Since its Kickstarter launch back in September, the Muv-Luv Team has been met with unprecedented success. Considering that the Clannad Kickstarter reached $541,161 in its final days, still an incredible amount of support, the long sought-after cult hit that is the Muv-Luv franchise is surely going to bring as much content to its fans as it possibly can. Over 7,000 backers have combined their support to help bring $1,173,000 to localize the visual novel series. Consisting of Muv-Luv Extra, Unlimited, and Alternative, the trilogy isn’t the only piece of lore expected to release to those who backed specific tiers.

Thanks to the overwhelming contributions made by loving fans, the $500,000 stretch goal has been shattered and those who backed the project at the $150 tier will receive the official Muv-Luv Codex digital guide, which will feature unreleased images, lore, and even more for those interested. As if that wasn’t enough to have you drooling for more, the $720,000 stretch goal will allow the team to also localize the Photon Melodies and Photon Flowers spin-off games, which were exclusively released on the PlayStation 3 but will be met with a PC release.

Muv-Luv-Extra-Kickstarter-3

The Muv-Luv Team delivered one final blow in the form of a $900,000 stretch goal which will give $150 and above backers a physical, 400+ page copy of the Muv-Luv Alternative Codex with will include even more content than the previously mentioned Muv-Luv Codex. That’s not enough for you? How about a Sumika Figma as a delicious $150+ backer reward.

Sumika-Figma-Muv-Luv-1

According to the Muv-Luv Kickstarter, the trilogy will release in March 2016 while backers will have to wait for their physical rewards later that year in Fall 2016.

If you’ve got a spare $150 or more laying around, you’re aching for some mecha action, and want more information, feel free to check out their Kickstarter. You’d better be quick, though, because the Kickstarter ends in only 10 hours! You can also vote to get Muv-Luv Extra + Unlimited green-lit for release on Steam, while Muv-Luv Alternative has already been green-lit.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Censored for NA/EU Release

4

Nintendo isn’t new to censored content featured on their systems – such as name and costume changes for Bravely Default and a scene featuring Tharja, in Fire Emblem: Awakening – so it comes as no surprise this would potentially happen again. Thanks to Twitter user Teikage, screenshots reveal the differences between the Japanese release and the European release.

https://twitter.com/_teikage/status/660050698080514052?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

https://twitter.com/_teikage/status/660051660039979009?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Lin Lee – the character, in question, getting these cosmetic changes – is reportedly thirteen-years-old which makes sense that this censorship would arise when delivered to a Western/European audience. This definitely, also, explains Xenoblade Chronicles X receiving a Teen rating in North America and a 12+ rating in Europe.

As of this writing, it’s only been shown that two costumes have been censored. However, we’ll keep you updated if and when more information comes out.

Xenoblade Chronicles X, developed by Monolith Soft (Xenosaga trilogy, Disaster: Day of Crisis) and published by Nintendo, will be released in North America and Europe on December 4th, 2015 exclusively for the Wii U.

Pre-Order Xenoblade Chronicles X and Get… Pizza!

0

Xenoblade-Chronicles-X-Pizza-1

For what seems like years, retailers and publishers have been spicing up your pre-order decision with tantalizing bonuses such as extra in-game content and even physical collectibles. Best Buy is hoping to add little… flavor to your decision to reserve Xenoblade Chronicles X, the upcoming JRPG developed by Monolith Soft (Xenosaga trilogy) and published by Nintendo.

Excluding the enamoring Collector’s Edition, for  Xenoblade Chronicles X, if you pre-order by December 3rd, 2015, you will receive… a $10 virtual gift card for pizza. You heard it right, purchase the game, in full, by December 10th and you’ll have some sweet munchies to go with your brand new game.

A code will be provided for you, thus you will have to register that code by January 14th, 2016, at XCXPizzaCash.com where you’ll get your access to a $10 virtual prepaid Mastercard to slam down on some cheesy goodness. Better be quick, though, because if you hold off on that pizza for too long – January 31st, to be exact – all funds will be forfeited.

It’s certainly a more perplexing incentive to purchase what could arguably be one of the most anticipated follow-ups to Monolith Soft’s ever-expanding Xeno series. How can you say no to pizza, though?

If pre-ordering Xenoblade Chronicles X, launching exclusively on the Nintendo Wii U on December 4th, 2015, has you itching for a slice, you can pre-order here.

70s Sci-Fi Esque Short Film, Metroid: The Sky Calls, Dazzles

0

Rainfall Films, a video production company based out of Los Angeles, skyrocketed in popularity back in 2008 with their infamous Legend of Zelda April Fool’s trailer. This faux trailer, released on IGN, became an overnight sensation resulting in, according to their website:

…it was watched over 2.5 million times, became the #1 video on Youtube and MySpace, and was the 4th most Googled term in the world.

Since then, Rainfall Films has been contributing post-production services on music videos and television shows, as well as producing another fan film featuring the legendary Amazon warrior-princess, hailing from Themyscira, Wonder Woman (a.k.a. Diana Prince) which also resulted in a massive Internet-wide boom. To this day, the video on YouTube has over 5 million+ views!

In a collaboration between Rainfall and Nerdist, back in June 2014, fans could vote for what Rainfall could bring to life once more including Final Fantasy VI and, one of Nintendo’s gem IPs, Metroid. It wasn’t long before Metroid towered as a champion, winning the majority vote later in July. Now, a year later, Metroid: The Sky Calls is out and, oh boy, is it a doozy. Paying a serious homage to 70s sci-fi legends like Alien, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and, of course, the Metroid franchise itself, director Sam Balcomb and actress Jessica Chobot show that, if anything, Samus Aran could stand to show a thing or two to the leagues of notoriously awful video-game-to-film adaptations. That is, if Nintendo will allow her to.

Why We Haven’t Seen More of the Last Guardian

0

The Last Guardian, being developed by Team Ico (known for producing Shadow of The Colossus and ICO) was last seen at its re-reveal premiere at E3 2015. However, the title was absent from both Tokyo Game Show and Paris Games Week. According to Sony Worldwide Studios boss, Shuhei Yoshida, this was intentional. Yoshida stated there was nothing to worry about, that the platform holder’s only limiting what the potential players see, otherwise it would spoil things.

Development is going well, but because it’s about the story, we don’t want to show too much,

We wanted to show that it exists, it works, it runs. It’s not like we won’t show anything before launch, but I think that we will try to limit what we show about the game.

Why We Haven't Seen More of The Last Guardian 2

Although it’s rather disappointing news, it makes us all the more excited to see what Sony has to offer us with this grandiose title.

It is estimated that there will be something shown at PlayStation Experience later in the year. The Last Guardian, having been in development for around 8 years now, it’s no wonder they want to shroud the title in mystery.

Below is the trailer that was shown at E3 2015:

Koei Tecmo Working With “Prominent Overseas IP”

0

Koei Tecmo has been making strides in their respective industry, both in game development and game publishing. With JRPGs like Nights of Azure and the Atelier series, both developed by Gust, and the immense, almost gargantuan success of the Dead or Alive series, it wouldn’t be too far from the truth to say that Koei Tecmo can become one of the next premier Japanese publishers in the West. The company has also capitalized on its trademark Dynasty/Samurai Warriors formula, collaborating with IPs across both video games and manga. Thus, spawning the likes of Hyrule Warriors, One Piece: Pirate Warriors, and Dragon Quest: Heroes.

Thanks to ZhugeEX, we are provided a peek into just how successful Tecmo Koei has been during the first half of the 2015/16 fiscal year.

Prominent-Overseas-IP-3

  • Arslan: The Warriors of Legend – 60,000 units sold in Japan and Asia
  • Nights of Azure – 150,000 units sold in Japan and Asia
  • Samurai Warriors 4: Empires – 100,000 units sold in Japan and Asia
  • Dead or Alive 5: Core Fighters – 4 million downloads
  • Nobunaga’s Ambition 201X – 600,000 downloads
  • My Gamecity (gaming platform) – 800,000 members

It’s worth noting that Nights of Azure is an entirely new IP for Koei Tecmo, also known by its Japanese name Yoru no Nai Kuni. With 150,000 units sold primarily in Japan and Asia – and debuting at #4 in software sales in Japan – it could prove to be even more beneficial for the company with its approaching North American release date of March 29th, 2016. With game software revenue down 10% due to delays, the future may look bleak though Koei Tecmo reportedly shattered their initial earnings forecast, bringing in a 45.7% increase at ¥2,477 million.

Prominent-Overseas-IP-2

Cheeky of Koei Tecmo, however, was that they featured a bullet point in their collaboration expansions hinting at a “large-scale… collaboration with a prominent overseas IP.” It’s rare to see the West and East combine their efforts for a video game, in more ways than simply publishing games in North America, so whatever this could manifest into will be interesting.

Prominent-Overseas-IP-1

All stops are being pulled out, it seems, for 2016 with Toukiden 2 and Nioh, both revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2015, and a list of releases in North America and Europe including the aforementioned Nights of Azure, Arslan: The Warriors of Legend, an Attack on Titan collaboration, and Atelier Escha & Logy Plus: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky.

Chris Brown’s “Zero” Art Has Shocking Similarities to City Hunter

1

Chris Brown released his single “Zero,” on September 18th, and for a while, there was no real buzz around it, until on October 30th, Twitter user Gregoire Hellot  pointed out that the single’s cover looks a lot like a clip from City Hunter.

Chris Brown's Zero Art Has Shocking Similarities to City Hunter

So far, the mangaka of City Hunter, Tsukasa Hojo has said nothing in response this, but the idea of him receiving a royalty in private is not out of the question. This is not the only time an American hip hop recording artist has paid homage to Japanese media. In 2007, Kanye West’s Stronger music video was directly inspired by the film, Akira, so this just means that anime and manga are becoming more mainstream, which is only a good thing.

Terraformars Live-Action Film Receives a New Poster Visual

0

Terraformars, originally released as a manga written by Yuu Sasuga and illustrated by Kenichi Tachibana, has been gaining momentum as of lately with a TV anime adaptation in September 2014 and several spin-off manga since its debut in 2011. According to Crunchyroll‘s listing for the aforementioned Terraformars anime, the sypnosis goes:

With Earth becoming increasingly overpopulated, an ambitious plan has been put into place to terraform Mars using mold and cockroaches. Nearly 500 years after the plan, a mission to Mars, Annex 1, is under way to accomplish crucial research into the Virus currently plaguing mankind with the crew members who’ve been injected with various DNA of life on Earth in order to combat the Terraformars, giant humanoid cockroaches.

Takashi Miike, responsible for helming the director’s seat on several live-action adaptations like Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Yatterman, is once again providing his extensive experience for this film. Alongside Miike, Kazuki Nakashima, responsible for series composition and scriptwriting on anime such as Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill, is providing the script.

Back in August, there was another little poster tease in regards to the existence of the Terraformars film, but didn’t show off the ensemble quite yet in their epic spacesuits. To give starry-eyed cinema viewers a look into this live-action realization, a poster was recently revealed thanks in part to the film’s staff.

Terraformars will premiere on April 29th, 2016, in Japan, and star Emi Takei (Rurouni Kenshin live-action films) and Hideaki Ito (Western Sukiyaki Django) as the leading roles of Nanao Akita and Shoukichi Komachi, respectively.

Square Enix Files Trademark for Shinra Game System

1

It’s been over a year since Shinra Technologies was revealed at the previous Tokyo Game Show, back in September of 2014. This initiative – pioneered by Yoichi Wada, former vice president of Square Enix – was created to help the aforementioned Square Enix expand their software to a cloud-streaming service.

Donning the name of the megalomaniac conglomerate from Final Fantasy VII – one of Square’s earlier, most successful titles from 1997 – the company, Shinra Technologies, Inc., is headquartered out of New York City. Since its audacious reveal, the company is, in fact, so confident in its ability to dispel any disbelief and ambiguity in its platform that Shinra Technologies put their service through a live stress-test back in March at South by Southwest 2015. The platform has also already gone through beta tests in Kansas City and Texas, provided you were a subscriber to Google Fiber and Verizon FiOS.

With constant updates being posted on Twitter, via the account @Shinra_Tech, dating back only a couple days ago, the recent discovery that Square Enix has trademarked a logo for a “Shinra Game System” is mighty interesting. Looking through the European-based OHIM trademark-and-design database, you’ll notice Square Enix filed for a trademark on the 16th of October on the title for this inquisitive, possibly standalone system operating underneath the Shinra Technologies umbrella. The nail in the coffin? A figurative trademark on the logo for said system on the 30th.

Shinra-Game-System-Trademark-1
Both trademarks registered in the OHIM database.

There’s only so much to speculate until Square Enix makes an official announcement. However, with video-game companies like Sony also cannon-balling into the cloud-based ecosystem with PlayStation Now and Remote Play, it’s exciting to see what Square Enix can bring to the table. For those interested, here’s an entire view of the logo’s trademark.

Zero Escape 3, Now Titled Zero Time Dilemma

1

Back in July of this year, at Anime Expo 2015, it was revealed that a third sequel is in development for the critically praised Zero Escape series at a panel hosted by Aksys Games. Other tidbits of information were provided such as a simultaneous Western localization and Aksys is aiming for a Summer 2016 release for the Playstation Vita and Nintendo 3DS.

https://twitter.com/RPGSite/status/617072566499282945/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

The visual novel-adventure series has had two predecessors with Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (999, for short) – released for the original Nintendo DS in 2009 – and Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward – released for the Playstation Vita and Nintendo 3DS in 2012. Developed by Chunsoft, prior to their merging with Japanese publisher, Spike, both games have been commended for its macabre, branching storytelling and diverse cast of characters. With both games receiving Metacritic scores breaching the 80 point average and a cult following in the West, it’s easy to see why this installment should be on your radar in 2016!

Now, three months after the reveal, Aksys Games has provided fans and those with a piqued interest an announcement, shedding light on its title, Zero Time Dilemma, the sequel’s general tone, and keeping their promise for a Summer 2016 release:

In keeping with the season and celebrating all things sinister and diabolic, Aksys Games and Spike Chunsoft would like to announce that the official North American title for Zero Escape 3 is… Zero Time Dilemma! Building on the success of its predecessors, Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, and Virtue’s Last Reward, series mastermind Kotaro Uchikoshi has pulled out all the stops to deliver the most compelling and mind shredding gaming experience ever seen on a handheld platform. Choice is your only method of salvation and your only means of escape. How much of your humanity will you sacrifice to earn your freedom? As a new age of ruin looms large on the horizon, you must make impossible decisions and weather unimaginable consequences as you straddle the line between absolution and damnation. Plan your escape. Summer 2016.

As if that wasn’t enough, Aksys posted ZTD‘s logo and key art to drive the point home on what can be expected in the next thrilling ride in the Zero Escape franchise:

Aku no Hana Director, and Spiderman Writer Team up for New Original Anime Project

5

During the COMIKAZE EXPO2015 event, it was announced that Studio Deen, the studio responsible for Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura, and Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan – Tsuiokuhen, and Stan Lee’s  POW! ENTERTAINMENT are teaming up in order to make a new animation project titled “THE REFLECTION” which is a superhero series based off of an original story created by Stan Lee, the creator of such legendary superheroes Daredevil and Spiderman, as well as  Hiroshi Nagahama, the anime director for Mushi-shi and Aku no Hana.

This isn’t the first time the West and the East have tried combining their storytelling talents in order to create something. For example, Halo Legends took a Western IP and made 7 different short stories with it, all from different Japanese directors and studios, and they were all very unique and exciting. The most famous example though, is perhaps the collaboration between Production I.G., the studio responsible for the Ghost In the Shell and End of Evangelion films, and Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino in order to make The Origin of O-Ren for Kill Bill Vol. 1.

Here is a summary of the story from Studio Deen’s website:

After THE REFLECTION, some of the people in all parts of the world are discovered with super powers.
Some become heroes, and others villains.
How did the Reflection happen? What was the cause of it?
With many unsolved mysteries, the world is lead into turmoil.

Be sure to check out the official PV narrated by Stan Lee himself here:
