Shirt Review: Raiden from Boomslank

0

A few days ago in the mail I received a shirt that was ordered from Boomslank. For those who do not know Boomslank is a website that was created out of the purpose to have an anime brand that was strictly based on original artwork. They are doing what they love and making beautiful art on shirts.

The one I received from their lineup, is the Raiden shirt that they offer. The shirt came in a really cute packaging with an anime girl and boy on the front as well as Boomslank’s logo.

The shirt is an extra small, which pleased me even before I had it come in the mail, not many sites offer that size. Everything is usually a Small, Medium or Large. They even offer up to 2XL (XX-Large).

The shirt is actually a bit bigger though despite it being an extra small but honestly not an issue, I’d rather a bigger extra small than an extra small that I can not fit in to, nothing grinds my gears more than a shirt I really want and it ends up being too small.

It’s made with 100% cotton and is stitched really well. the over all quality of the shirt and its image are well done and very pleasing and its extremely comfortable. This shirt meets all my shirt standards, Im a bit fan of printed tees.

Also while opening the package a card fell out, on this card is information on how to get 20% off on your next purchase. Just look how cute their mascot is!

There is also a second paper that was in the bag. On this paper it has a picture of the Raiden design that is on my shirt, when you turn it over it contains a little bit of information about the shirt and why this design was chosen.

I found this shirt amazing and one of my favorite items I have ever gotten in a package from an online shop, and its not even that big of an item! It’s just really cute and I find myself wanting to buy their other shirts just to read why they have picked the designs.

Over all though, I’d order from this company again, the package took 9 days to get to me (From USA to Canada), for those who shop online that is honestly no time at all. The site is also really nice and easy to use, they contain a really sweet size chart too using anime characters and this item is one of the few online items I have been 100% happy with. I highly recommend them!

Check the site for other cool designs as they update it periodically with more cool content. Keep yourselves tuned in for more anime-related reviews soon!

Figure Review: Asuka Langley Soryu – Neon Genesis Evangelion

1

Constantly delivering you with reviews about popular anime figures, Haruhichan and E2046.com is back once again! And to add to our review collection, here is Neon Genesis Evangelion’s feisty Eva Pilot, Asuka Langley Soryu!

Asuka Plug Suit Pre-painted 7

An avid fan or not, everyone would agree that this hot-headed hottie is stunning, and so is this gorgeous figure. Fashioned in her classic plug suit, Asuka is suspended in the air in a very stylized pose which accentuated her tiny frame with deadly bodily curves.

Asuka Plug Suit Pre-painted 1

On the front view, Asuka’s bright red plug suit is vibrantly painted well; making the figure a total standout. Details of the plug suit are very accurate such as the black linings throughout her shoulders, arms and legs. Also, being the Second Child and pilot of Evangelion Unit-02, the plug suit stays true to the actual gear as her number, “2”, is both displayed on the chest and back area of the suit.

Asuka Plug Suit Pre-painted 8 Asuka Plug Suit Pre-painted 6

Looking a bit closer, her facial feature is a tad different compared to the whole sexy pose. Her angelic face is a spot-on replica with her cute as a button nose and blue eyes. While her ginger hair effortlessly floats mid-air, and the craftsmanship is impressive as each strand is beautifully flowing. And to complete her pilot gear, Asuka is sporting her A10 nerve clips on both sides of her hair.

Asuka Plug Suit Pre-painted 2

To add the sci-fi feel of the series, Asuka seems to be surrounded by waves of black and blue “robotic” wires with gold stripes, looping around her legs, upper torso and hair.

Asuka Plug Suit Pre-painted 11

On the side, you have a better view of Asuka’s hair as it shows the volume of her ginger locks scattered in the air.

Asuka Plug Suit Pre-painted 4

On the back, Asuka’s back area is perfectly shaped. Also on this view, you can see that her arms and hands are softly arched backwards. The combination of her seriously deadly curves, fiery red plug suit and delicate facial features makes this Asuka figure a great one.

Asuka Plug Suit Pre-painted 3

Standing, or rather floating, the figure is 29cm in height and weighs 1.31kg. You would forget about Shinji not getting in the robot when you have this figure on-hand. And you can have it 25% off its original price if you pre-order it on E2046’s site!

Manga Review: Inu Yashiki by Oku Hiroya

0

Inu Yashiki is certainly a daunting manga in contrast to some of Oku Hiroya’s older works – primarily Gantz. (You remember Gantz, right? Of course you do. Who could forget that violence riddled bloodbath of unrivaled awesomeness?)

Inu Yashiki Oky Hiroya 1With an unusual protagonist, the story follows an elderly man – family name Inuyashiki – who has worked as a salary-man all his life, and seems to have started a family quite late into his years. With a nagging wife and two ungrateful kids to boot, Inuyashiki always strives to look on the bright side of things, and take everything he does and receives with a grain of salt – including harassment from teenagers and ungratefulness from his family.

Along the course of the first chapter, you can see all Inuyashiki seems to care about is his family. Though it took some time, he saved up all he could to give his family a nice, albeit small, home.

I started to really feel for this old man. He’s clearly put a lot of hard work in to provide for his family, and all they’ve done is pass him off as trash in the wind. There’s even a point where his own son runs into him on their respective ways home, and tells him that they don’t really need to walk together. Hell, he even goes as far to comparing his family to Hobbits.

Through the shire loneliness of it all, Inuyashiki announces to his family that he’ll be getting a dog, and quickly that dog becomes his only means of affection. It waits for him while he enjoys a bowl of ramen, and runs back right away when he gets loose.

Inu Yashiki Oky Hiroya 2Later on, Inuyashiki receives some medical test results in the mail, and as soon as his life started for us, he is diagnosed with stomach cancer. He’s left with this, and with having to tell his family, but no one answers his calls. At home, he can’t bring himself to do it. So he takes the dog for a walk. When they reach a park, he collapses, tightly embraces his new friend, and breaks down.

Out of the corner of his eye, he sees a young man standing there. And as soon as the man came into his vision, a flash of light came and went, and just as soon as we’re introduced to this kind old gentleman, we’re made to say goodbye.

…or are we?

What drew me in was the poignant slice of life, and Oku Hiroya’s take on how society treats the elderly, but what kept me was that ending. I won’t get into how, but Inu Yashiki pulls a “I Am A Hero“-esque transition at the end. You won’t see it coming, and that’s how its meant to be. I don’t normal compare or bring light to any kind of contrasts between manga and North American media (unless its explicitly spelled out), but Inu Yashiki has potential for some unequivocal Breaking Bad vibes. Only time will tell, and we’ll just have to place that in the hands of the scanlators. Given the author, there’s no doubt that we’ll be down for a wild ride in no time.

If you want to check out the first (and so far only) chapter of Inu Yashiki, you can read it here.

Death Note 10th Anniversary Countdown Appears

0

A new website was launched for the 10th anniversary of Tsugumi Ohba’s manga Death Note, earlier this month. Now, a timer has appeared on the site counting down to March 3rd (actually 12:00am on March 2nd), where the new project will be announced.

The new update to the site also includes an image of the Death Note book itself, and when hovered on it shows the shinigami Ryuk. The site also displays ads at the bottom of the screen for a possible new edition of the manga, which will be launching in Japan on March 18th. The ad links to the Shueisha manga site, the company that published the Death Note manga. There is no special code activated when the site hits March 3rd, except an image of the countdown showing 00d 00h 00m.

Death Note started off as a manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The manga was first published in December 2003 and ended in mid 2006 for a total of 12 volumes. After the completion of the manga, Death Note has sold a total of 20 million copies in Japan alone and a total of 26 million copies to date. Two light novels were also produced for the series, one based on the manga and the other based on the spin-off film. And of course, Hollywood has an interest in the franchise.

While the countdown itself isn’t anything big, it confirms that March 3rd is something you should keep an eye out for. Do note that it will be revealed at 12am on Japanese time.

Manga Review: Sunny by Taiyo Matsumoto

0

You’ll be hard pressed to find a manga author these days who has such a level of consistency in giving each of their works the kind of characters and atmosphere that pulls you in and doesn’t let go. This much (and so much more) can be said for Eisner award winner Taiyo Matsumoto’s current manga, Sunny.

The eponymous Sunny is a busted up old Sunny 1200 on the outside, and a means of escape for the children of the orphanage on the inside. Sunny can take you anywhere: a race track, an old home – anywhere as long as you can imagine it.

sunny-preview-oneThe story starts off inside the imagination of one of the orphans: a snow haired boy named Haruo. In the middle of a desert, his car broken down, coyotes begin to creep in at the smell of the blood from a gunshot wound. And as quick as we’re taken into Haruo’s imagination, his fantasy is immediately interrupted by the announcement of a new kid joining them at their home.

Haruo and some of the others take new kid Sei around the home’s yard, where they hop into the Sunny and take a joy ride on the moon. Its there Sei announces that he’s going home soon, to which Haruo immediately tells him there’s no way its happening.

Over the course of the first volume, we come to learn a lot about the hearts and minds of the orphans at the home, with a particular focus on the devil-may-care Haruo. He has no particular aspirations (but what kid around 10 does anyway?). He’s protective of others from the home, as seen when he flies in and beats up a couple of classmates making fun of Junsuke. But behind Haruo’s tough exterior lays a caring human afraid of being abandoned.

On a bike ride, he notices another kid from the orphan, a girl named Megumu, staring into a river. She laments over a cat who had been hit by a car, and the two get on the topic of dying and death. Megumu starts to become upset, coming to her own realization that no one really cares about orphans, but Haruo declares that if something ever happened, he’d be here and he’d find her.

In a later chapter, the owner of the orphanages grandson Jun pays a visit. Beloved by all, and looked up to the most by Haruo, who after begging to let Jun stay in his room, reveals he doesn’t want his mother to visit. When asked why, he also reveals that while he’s happy for a while, he feels like when he was first dropped off all over again.sunny-preview-two

Matsumoto also reminds us that it isn’t just children who often become abandoned, and shifts the focus of Sunny to one of the older orphans, a middle schooler named Kenji. With a knack for getting into trouble, and a drunken deadbeat father, he finds himself still taking care of his father – even going so far as to give him some money to fix his broken teeth (which he instantly spends on booze). After a drunken sprawl over to a karaoke bar, Kenji rushes home on his bike, and through an intersection, closes his eyes and holds both arms out. He survives, and when he gets home, heads right for the Sunny.

What I rather enjoyed about Sunny was the bait-and-switch in the beginning; most manga tend to bring in a new character right off the bat with the intention of making them the primary focus, but instead, we’re basically put in the glasses of the new kid himself and come to learn and understand everyone where we live now.

Tackling themes like growing up before you’re meant to and escapism are hard themes to tackle, that goes without saying. But Sunny does it in such a way that you leave each chapter feeling like you really know these kids; like you even grew up in the same orphanage as they did. While the kids are aware of their situation, the majority try to make the best of it, while the few like Haruo and Kenji tend to have a more cynical, albeit realistic, view on life – a view that shouldn’t be held by a ten year old, or middle schooler.

In a world where abandonment holds a higher fear than death to these kids, an escape method like the Sunny 1200 provides a safe space – a level of comfort only reachable through imagination. Sunny does an outstanding job of reeling you in with surreal and charming artwork, and hooking you with a cast of characters that will tug at your heartstrings and warm them simultaneously.

The anime and manga series were insanely popular in Japan, with the manga selling over 150 million copies to date. The anime was soon picked up by Funimation Entertainment in 1995, who added in their own dub and changes to the anime. Yuru Yuri Yuruyuri Season 3 AnnouncedWell clear your mind and relax, as clearly 2 seasons were not enough for the fans of Yuruyuri as Yuruyuri’s manga creator, Namori, announces a third anime adaptation project clearly and officially. Namori also mentioned all her thanks to her fans for all the support they’ve been giving her, and asks for them to continue to Yuruyuri together with her.

Due to this Slice of Life being extremely popular, a further 12-episode sequel named Yuruyuri♪♪ (-Happy go Lily (TV2) aired during 2012, and Crunchyroll proceeded to stream as the second series aired. Figure Review: Raiden – Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

2

Our favorite anime figure site, E2046.com partners again with Haruhichan for another great anime figure review. And this time, it’s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance’s main protagonist; Raiden!

Fans would definitely go excited with this one as E2046.com shows off their incredible workmanship with Raiden in his Cyborg Ninja appearance.

Raiden Pre-painted 1

On the front view, Raiden is holding his black sword with his right hand; looking confident and ready to wage war against Steven Armstrong. Even with a black eyepatch on his left eye, Raiden’s strong persona is very evident due to the great painting on his right eye.

Raiden Pre-painted 11

But what will catch your attention is definitely his well-sculptured exterior. From shoulder spikes to his black chest armor, details are very well-crafted. Both arms carry spikes on each side while his abdomen exposes a very well-shaped package. His legs are partially covered in black leg armory that is also an extension of his boots.

Raiden Pre-painted 5Raiden Pre-painted 3Raiden Pre-painted 8

From the back, you can see his huge sword sheath. And even the tiniest strands of wiring on his legs are really intricate; living up to the robotic feel. While gold screws are on each armor panel to complete the Cyborg Ninja look.

Raiden Pre-painted 9

Weighing in 1.80kg and with the height of 34cm, this Raiden figure is lightweight and has a nice grip on it, despite the spikes and exterior. Painting is very vivid and well-polished and required minimal assembly. The figure itself is standing on a concrete looking base, which looks like Raiden has just jumped onto the ground. Just look at impact the jump has caused, you can tell something serious is about to happen.

Raiden Pre-painted 10

This figure is without a doubt one of the best we have ever reviewed here on Haruhichan: a spot-on replica of the character we love in a very affordable price tag. For only $180 (It’s on sale right now!), you can take full commando on this badass figure.

As always, don’t forget to check out E2046.com and while you’re at it, tell us which anime figures you’re planning to buy next!

Death Note 10th Anniversary Project Website Launched

7

Update: The fifth volume of the Shueisha Jump Remix version of Takeshi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba’s Death Note manga announced on Friday that there will be an announcement regarding the Death Note 10th Anniversary project on March 3rd.

Death Note Has 10th Anniversary Project in the Works

Time sure goes by quickly. The ever so popular franchise, Death Note, has recently turned 10. To commemorate this tremendous achievement a special new website has launched. Titled as Death Note 10th Anniversary (『DEATH NOTE』降誕10周年サイト) this new website shows nothing more than just a tease for a new Death Note project:

Death-Note-10th-Anniversary website image

Apart from this new website, nothing else has been said about the 10th anniversary of Death Note so far. This website is for a new project in the Death Note series, and what that entails can be anyones guess. The Death Note franchise has spread wide and far, with the original manga, anime series, light novels, and various movies and games. Each one of these media could be the next Death Note project. But here’s the kicker, Hollywood is also interested in Death Note.

Film studio Warner Bros. (the studio behind the DC Comic films) have won the rights to the film in 2009. In 2011 they announced Shane Black (Iron Man 3) would direct the film. There were reports of many planned changes to the original story of Death Note, such as the removal of the Shinigami and Yagami having a close friend dying at a young age. Production has been progressing very slowly, but Shane has confirmed he is still working on the film in an interview in April last year.

Death Note Manga coverDeath Note started off as a manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The manga was first published in December 2003 and ended in mid 2006 for a total of 12 volumes. At the completion of the manga, Death Note has sold a total of 20 million copies in Japan alone, and a total of 26 million copies to date. The series was popular enough to receive an anime adaptation by the studio Madhouse, which went on from late 2006 to mid 2007. Since then, the series exploded in popularity in Japan and overseas. Three films were produced; two based on the original manga and a new spin-off movie titled L: Change the World. A series of video games were also produced by Konami for the Nintendo DS. Two light novels were also produced for the series, one based on the manga and the other based on the spin-off film. And of course, Hollywood has an interest in the franchise.

It is a big milestone for the series, and its creators: Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. What this new 10th anniversary project will be, who knows. It could be a remake of the anime, a new film, a live stage show or some mobile game. In the meantime, check out the site yourself: http://www.j-deathnote.com/

What do you think could be the 10th anniversary present?

There will be two films based on Parasyte, one releasing in December this year and the second in late 2015. The films are currently being produced by Toho, who acquired the rights to the film last year. It was reported that there would a Hollywood film based on Parasyte back in 2005, when New Line Cinemas acquired the rights to the film. But their rights have soon expired after no news of the film surfaced since. Toho acquired the rights after large bidding war between many Japanese Studios last year. The Hollywood film would’ve been directed by Takashi Shimizu, who had directed the popular Grudge films.

The films will be directed by Takashi Yamazaki, who directed the live action Space Battleship Yamato film in 2010. Ryota Kosawa, the screenwriter of The Detective Is in the Bar and Always: Sunset on Third Street, has been confirmed to be working on the films as well. The main members of the cast has been confirmed:

  • Ai Hashimoto (live action Another film) will portray Shinichi’s friend Satomi Murano
  • Shota Sometani (live action TV xxxHOLiC series) will be starring as Shinichi Izumi
  • Eri Fukatsu (from the movie Onnanoko Monogatari) will play Ryouko Tamiya

Parasyte, known as Kiseijuu in Japan, is a manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki that serialized from 1990 to 1995 in Kodansha’s Afternoon magazine. The manga was very popular and well received, selling over 11 million copies to date, with a total of 10 volumes. The manga also won the Kodansha Manga Award in 1993. Tokyopop, known as MixxZine in the 1990s, published the manga in North America until 2005, where Del Rey Manga picked up publishing rights.

Here is a synopsis of the manga from Haruhichan:

Anime adaptation of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s 1990 manga Parasyte (Kiseiju), will be airing in Fall this year.

They arrive in silence and darkness. They descend from the skies. They have a hunger for human flesh. They are everywhere. They are parasites, alien creatures who must invade-and take control of-a human host to survive. And once they have infected their victims, they can assume any deadly form they choose: monsters with giant teeth, winged demons, creatures with blades for hands. But most have chosen to conceal their lethal purpose behind ordinary human faces. So no one knows their secret-except an ordinary high school student. Shin is battling for control of his own body against an alien parasite, but can he find a way to warn humanity of the horrors to come?

The Parasyte anime will be airing during the Fall season of anime. Not much is known about the anime adaptation, including which studio will be producing it.

Love Live! School Idol Festival; Mobile Game Coming Overseas in English

0

The popularity of the idol anime genre is a mixed bag, especially when it comes to the overseas market. Last year’s idol anime, Love Live! School Idol Project saw some modest ratings, enough of it to warrant a second season (airing next season) and a mobile game, Love Live! School Idol Festival. The developers of the game, KLabGames and Bushiroad has just announced that the game will be releasing overseas in English this Spring.

The app will also be releasing in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea in their local languages. So no one will be missing out on the Love Live! goodness. The game will be available for both Android and IOS smartphones and devices.

Love Live! School Idol Festival is a game hybrid of the Rhythm and adventure genres, where you play songs from the series’ idol group μ’s, and interact with the characters from the anime. The game also has a form of social integration, where you build your idol group based on what cards you have. The main portion of the game is split up into chapters, with chapter 15 being the most recent addition. It released in April last year and it was reported that the app had really strong sales.

Love Live! School Idol Project is an original anime produced by Sunrise studios that aired in January 2013. The conception of the anime project started in 2010 by Dengeki G’s Magazine. The editors wanted the project to be heavily influenced by fans, such as the costumes, hairstyles and names. Throughout this process, a manga of the project simply called Love Live! began in early 2012 by Sakurako Kimino and Arumi Tokita. The next part in the project was the anime series, followed by this app and an OVA. The second season of Love Live! School Idol Project will air in Spring this year, when the app will be released overseas, and a PlayStation Vita game will soon follow releasing in May.

Love Live! School Idol Festival will be coming out on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in English this Spring. While the game will be translated into English, the songs themselves are very unlikely to be.

Haruhichan Android App – An in-depth info guide

15

You may or may not have noticed that our Android App recently went into open BETA. We’ve been getting flooded with very basic questions, so I’ve decided to write up an in-depth info guide giving the ins and outs of the app.

First of all, you’ll want to visit this page and click the highlighted text which says join as an alpha tester. Once you click the link, you’ll be redirected to a Google+ community page, Haruhichan Apps Test Group. Click the ‘ask to join’ button. Once you’ve been accepted you’ll be able to view the community and download the app onto any of your devices.

When you’ve been accepted, the community page should look something like this:

Haruhichan Apps Test Group Community pageNoticed how I highlighted the ‘Want the app? CLICK HERE’ part? That’s because most of you over look this then ask ‘How do I get the app??’ – I can understand if you’re on your android device and you ask, since for some reason the ‘About this community’ doesn’t show on your tablet/phone if you are using the Google+ app.

Once you’ve clicked the ‘Want the app? CLICK HERE’ you’ll be redirect to a page with instructions, follow them:

Haruhichan-Apps-Test-Group-Community-instructionsIf you’re following the above instructions, you should be redirected to a page that looks something like this:

Haruhichan.com become an android testerClick become a tester, once clicked you should get a confirmation to say you’re now a tester like so:

Haruhichan.com you are now a testerOnce you are a tester, you should be able to view the Haruhichan app on the Google Play Store. You can either click the ‘Download Haruhichan from the Play Store‘ or the link stated in the instructions which is here (Please note these links won’t work if you didn’t confirm yourself as a tester.)

Now you can install the App to your device(s) of choice. Once installed a Haruhichan app icon should be automatically placed onto your device, click it to open the app. Once opened you’ll be welcomed by the default currently airing ‘season’ of anime.

Haruhichan App Currently Airing AnimeYou can now browse our catalog of currently airing anime and decide what you want to watch. Once you click on an anime, lets use D-Frag! as an example. The app will switch to the page for that anime as seen here:

Haruhichan App D-Frag anime pageIt will load the ‘Information’ tab by default. Here you can see all the information you need to know about the show (Alt names, Japanese name, Status, Airing date, Producers, Genres, Next episode airing time and Synopsis.) If you click on the ‘Releases’ tab, it’ll show you ever single release so far for this anime. The latest releases will be at the top, of-course.

Haruhichan App D-Frag anime releases pageAs you can see above, you have a wide variety of Fansub groups to pick from. They’re all good so you can pick whoever, really. If you like a certain group, stick with them. I recommend to not download Hi10P (10bit) releases on older devices that struggle to play it back. By clicking the download button, a pop-up screen should appear giving you options on what to do. You’ll need a torrent client at this point to download torrents. I recommend µTorrent for android.

Haruhichan App D-Frag anime download popupI clicked ‘Open with torrent program’ which brings up the µTorrent app for android.

2014-02-03 20.14.28It will ask you where you want to save the file, I just hit ‘Add’. Once done your torrent will start downloading (Please note that the speed depends on your ISP and how well the torrent is being seeded.)

Haruhichan App D-Frag anime download utorrent android.png episode 4Now you’ll wait for the torrent to finish downloading. Once downloaded, you can view it on any media player. I recommend MX Player. Open up MX Player and it should automatically find everything to do with media files. Just open the file you want to play and enjoy.
